UNIUYO RIOT And Our Female Heads..pathetic by PoetRazon(m): 7:16pm On Jun 12, 2013 |
Razon is not anti-feminist, but there is something wrong with handing Academic Management to women- more specifically the Nigerian women. It will forever be stuck in my memory that on June, 2011; a riot caused by a baseless increase in Tuition fees and a student union instigated peaceful protest claimed the lives of two student in Federal Polytechnic,Nekede-Owerri. This resulted from the invitation of the Police to ensure it didn't turn Violent; Ironically, the trigger-happy Police men turned the Protest to a Quirkmire when they opened fire into the students' mob- killing two. Buildings were razed and school properties vandalized. The effects (on the school administration and management aswell as on the families of the deceased students) remains evergreen in our hearts and will take a long time to be over-turned). Today, in a rather peaceful University of Uyo; about 3 students have been killed by police bullets when a peaceful protest against the institution of an exhorbitant (to the tune of a 100 Naira) daily bus tariff turned violent- to convey engineering and sciences students to the university permanent site for off-camp lectures. In both cases; the police were invited by the management represented by a Women-Rector and Vice Chancellor respectively. Questions must be asked; how could this happen? Why would our mother-figures become the terror of our academic nightmares? Is it a new trend? Shouldn't we be piqued by these Management organised bloodsheds in our citadels? Were these women feeling insecure in the face of an academic dilemma? And would their male counterparts have reacted so? Where is the element of control and why do our management fret in the face of rather controllable student- management brogolios? And why are half-educated and mostly semi-literate Policemen be pulling triggers on potential academic Elites? Would these women (both having not felt the pains of childbirth before nor experienced child-rearing)have acted same ways if they had children and their children were involved? Shouldn't we reconsider leaving the academics and life of Nigerian Students in the hands of women? Just Questions-serious questions that demand answers. Rest in Peace y'all. -Poet Razon
