Mourinho has done all he humanly can to defend Chelsea’s Premiership title. Long-term, we are unbeaten in 60 Premiership home matches and closing in on Liverpool’s record of 63.

Spurs were forced to play Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, just 39 hours after their UEFA Cup defeat in Seville, a fact which was not lost on the Manchester United chief.

Chelsea refused to allow Spurs to move the fixture back to Sunday because of travel plans ahead of their Champions League return leg in Valencia on Tuesday night.

It prompted a sarcastic comment from Ferguson who claimed Chelsea had the power to control the fixtures and after Ricardo Carvalho's second-half shot had given Chelsea all three points in a 1-0 win, Mourinho admitted he had not been shocked by the blast from the Old Trafford veteran.

Mourinho said: "I was not surprised he complained about this fixture because he is intelligent and maybe he thinks the other people are stupid.

"Being intelligent is a great quality. Intelligent people are one step ahead of other people. But when you think other people are stupid, it is not such a good quality.

"He is an intelligent man, a successful man with a great career. You cannot be a great manager if you are not intelligent. The time I spend with him I always enjoy so much because he is intelligent.

"I accept what he said as an intelligent quote from an intelligent person, forgetting other people are not stupid and only can laugh about it."

But in his assessment of their well-deserved victory over Martin Jol's side, he could not resist having another dig at Ferguson.

Chelsea have rarely had the chance to put pressure on United by playing first during a weekend, but with Ferguson's side taking on Portsmouth in a 5.15pm start, the champions took their chance to apply some brief pressure on the leaders.

Mourinho said: "We did our job. This is the only time we have had the chance to play before United and that is because we control the fixtures.

"Imagine if we didn't control them? But because we control the fixtures we had the incredible chance to close the gap. We didn't fail, we did our job.

"Chelsea were by far the best team in the first half and should have scored goals.

"We scored in the second half and Salomon Kalou had an easy chance to make it 2-0 and after that Tottenham came into the game and played well.

"They had a great shot and header but Petr Cech was there to give us the security we need. We deserved the win and because Tottenham played well it has a better meaning.

"We played very well defensively and the chances they created came from set-pieces where they have massive people in the air and from long-range shots.

"Our midfield did a good job and controlled possession of the ball in a very comfortable way."

Tottenham's assistant manager Chris Hughton admitted that the schedule had taken its toll on their players but insisted they could take much credit from their performance.

Spurs rested five players after losing 2-1 to Sevilla in Spain just 39 hours previously but still gave Chelsea a difficult game.

Spurs face the UEFA Cup holders in the return leg on Thursday and their Premiership clash with Wigan next weekend also had a say in Tottenham's decision to give some players a day off.

Hughton, who stepped in for the 'under weather' Jol, said: "We always felt we were very much in the game.

"There is no doubt that the schedule had an effect. How you gauge that effect though is almost impossible.

"We certainly would have been grateful and happy with the extra day with regards to our preparation. But what I can say is that the players who did play were certainly a credit to us and the fact we finished strongly, is a testament to them."

But Hughton had no major complaints with his side over Carvalho's winning goal - a 35-yard drive that left Paul Robinson without a chance.

He added: "We could possibly have put more pressure on the ball for their goal. But when you concede a goal like that you are always disappointed.

"But sometimes you have to give them credit. It was a wonderful strike by the lad. We've seen him to that before and sometimes you have to credit them."

Whine and dine with the Lip.

SAF made his comments before the match not after. He took a jibe at Chelshit and see the lengthy response. In any case Chelsea could have obliged the Spurs request. They completely refused to entertain it(It was however upto the FA to insist) Sunday lunch time would have been ok for them to travel wherever and they were just being smart . I do not begrudge them even SAF would have done the same.

SAF is however not the only intelligent one. The Lip should credit himself with more intelligence especially when Chelsea loses. He smells conspiracies by refs, other managers, his own players, groundsmen, family members, members of the Royal Navy , CIA, National Union of Road Transport Workers and just about anyone.

Remember he said Ass was out to help MU that's why they forced Chelsea to a draw(yeah Goons and UNited are best of pals ),was responsible for a top ref retiring prematurely, accused AJ of diving later came out to swallow his words and so many many others.

He's always fun to watch. Especially when you guys lose. . . . so we'll all be having fun soon. grin grin grin

So for d 1st time in a long while, we played before manu and d pressure was on manu instead of us like it always has been. They fumbled well. I pray we play before them so they'll see how uneasy it is to play under pressure.
Re: Strictly Chelsea Talk: by Mustay(m): 12:47am On Apr 09, 2007
Swp's problem is dat he tries to prove a point that money wasn't wasted on him. Sometimes, it works well, sometimes it doesn't. Infact he makes some childish mistakes you don't expect from him

Mustay:

So for d 1st time in a long while, we played before manu and d pressure was on manu instead of us like it always has been. They fumbled well. I pray we play before them so they'll see how uneasy it is to play under pressure.

Self-inflicted pressure. If you had been on top this would not be an issue.

When you were on top last season and winning matches at lunch time all these playing before or after was neva an issue. Now that you appear on the backfoot we no go hear word. You are setting the tone for excuses when we finally win the Prem. We never did that in the 2 seasons that you won.

The cracks I see show that you will not be Champs and probably were neva worthy Champs.

Deserving  champs ? yes ,for being the most consistent, but definitely not worthy for not(among others) being able to accept defeat (when it occurs)gracefully.Every single Chelsea defeat has been contested or derided by the Lip. Nobody likes to lose but don't stand logic on its head.

Again these fixtures had been done since July last year.It is only when you are disavantsged that you see conspiracies. When you were playing Xmas games before us no complaints, now You forget that Ass played before us but they are not in contention so it's not an issue right .

When Arsene Wenga whined about FA Cup replays my answer was if you win your games no one will force you to replay. You guys should have won your games early on . All this talk of pressure is self-inflicted and diversionary.

It will not be taking as excuse when you finally end up without the prem so begin to look for some others.

Remember you neva lose the League, you can only WIN it.

Keep scoring
Keep winning
We're bringing the trophy home

@ Manu4laif: LOL!!You are just like a typical nigerian polititian: when they want to make statements that cannot be substatiated, they start playing around with grammar! But then you are not even doing well at all,,,,as a matter of fact what you have written there is a complete contradiction! deserving and worthy Champs can only mean the same thing!perhaps when you have checked your Dico and make amends, then we might see the sense you are trying to make and comment accordingly. Then who would you define as an unworthy champion?
Most coaches always attribute their losses to one thing or the other, abi your didnt read about fergusson blaming their loss to portsmouth on fatigue caused by their trip to rome?As if they were the only club that played in Europe! You Manchester United fans apply a set of rules on your club andapply a diffrent set of rules to all the other clubs!
Re: Strictly Chelsea Talk: by Mustay(m): 10:08am On Apr 09, 2007
Manu 4 laif
do you work at d print?
Last season, we had already giving a distance of about 6 points. Moreover, manu fumbled in d 1st 10 matches of last season which gave us d edge Lol
Re: Strictly Chelsea Talk: by manu4laif: 1:50pm On Apr 09, 2007
@Mustay,
Sometimes a glass is half full or half empty. . .depends on who's looking or how you look at it. Just like a country with GDP per capita of under $1 could represents doom(for Vodaphone)or opportunity for MTN 2 synonyms may not always have the exact same meaning. So don't mind me tongue grin

Point.
Excuses are what they are and only come when you are not winning.SAF neva said we lost because of the fatigue only that the fatigue showed. That was no excuse just analysing positives and negatives of the match. We lost we lost and that's that. grin

Mustay,I am pre-empting the many other excuses you guys will come out with in the next few days when you begin to exit different competitions. grin grin grin

Keep scoring
Keep winning
We're bringing the trophy home

If my team exits, what about yours? They'll keep on entering abi?

You better leave them alone, they are haters, enemy of progress.

They do not want to agree that this is our own era, stop this act of jealousy so that you can progress.
