The ruling people's democratic party (PDP) has denied claims of a mass defection of governors to the all progressive congress (APC).

The denial follows weekend statement by the action congress of Nigeria (ACN) spokesman, Lai Mohammed clahming 23 governors, including from the ruling party, were now members of the recent formed opposition.

Olisa Metuh, PDP spokesman, took a swipe at the reports.

"APC is not an alternative to the PDP. APC is a party of extremists, religious bigots and tribal jingolists. It is a party doomed to fail" He said.

Reports of infighting in the ruling party ahead of the 2015 general election have fuelled reports of defections.

However Metuh said the ruling party was resolving the problems afflicting it.
