Mogadishu — Government sources informed GO that Somali Federal Government (SFG) Minister of the Presidential Palace Farah Abdiqadir has been in Ethiopia trying to mend deteriorating ties, Garowe Online reports. According to SFG sources, Minister Farah who has been in Ethiopia for the past three days has been meeting with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to give an unidentified letter to the Ethiopian Prime Minister from the SFG President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The sources tell GO that the two leaders relationship turned sour after President Hassan allegedly supported Egypt against Ethiopia who begun construction of a controversial dam along the Blue Nile. The sources say that President Hassan backed Egypt against the building of the dam after an official visit by the Egyptian Ministry of Defence on June 4th. The delegation pledged to rebuild the dilapidated headquarters of the Ministry of Defence. Also the delegation began talks on how to rebuild the Somali Armed Forces. Ethiopia has begun construction of the dam on the Blue Nile which will cut into the lion-share 55.5 billion cubic metres that Egypt receives from the Nile River. Ethiopia and five east African countries in the Nile Basin signed the Entebbe Treaty in 2010 that states that fair and reasonable use of the Nile River is principle. Uganda is one of the other East African countries that signed the treaty.

Destabilizing and weakening successive Ethiopian governments have been Egypt’s most efficiently exploited strategy to protect its monopolistic use of the Nile water. Cognizant of the internal contradictions and historical animosities among various Ethiopian constituencies, Egypt has often supported rebel groups fighting against Ethiopian rulers. This support has been both direct and indirect – in the past, it armed Eritrean and Tigrean rebels, backed Somalia’s support for Oromo and Somali insurgents, and also supported Siad Barre’s invasion. Reportedly there was even a plan to settle millions of Egyptians in Somalia in order to balance Ethiopia’s population. Ethiopia has also alleged that Egypt took sides with Eritrea during the 1998-2000 border conflict. There is little doubt that Egypt has been using Eritrea to channel support for various Ethiopian and Somali insurgents. This Egyptian strategy has been fruitful, given the unfortunate fact that every Ethiopian ruler has relied heavily on violent suppression of dissent, and the implementation of policies that favors one ethnic group over the other, thus creating favorable domestic conditions for armed insurgency. http://www.ethioobserver.net/Nile_interest.htm

Egypt has held talks with Somalia on the rehabilitation of the latter’s military facilities. The Commander of the Somali Coast Guard Force, Admiral Farah Ahmed Omar Qare, told the media that two Egyptian generals had visited the country to study the ways rehabilitate the Somali National Army (SNA) facilities. The Egyptian generals arrived at Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport on Tuesday and were received by Somali military officials. The Egyptian officials, who briefed the media, outlined their country’s commitment to assisting in the rebuilding of the war-ravaged infrastructure. “We will aid Somalia on the rebuilding of the army headquarters and military hospitals,” stated the officials. “The facilities will also serve the civilian population in the capital city,” they added. Somali army is one of the institutions that had received promises of support from various countries and agencies, including the African Union, the European Union and Turkey. The collapse of the central government led by General Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991, occasioned the collapse of all the state institutions, including the military, in the Horn of Africa country. Almost all the new Somali army recruits were trained in neighbouring Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. Meanwhile, Somalia’s deputy minister for Public Works, Ports and Marine Transport, Nadifa Mohamed Osman, on a visit to Iraq, stated that Tehran would give $15 million assistance to Mogadishu. Ms Nadifa told the press on Mogadishu Radio, a state run broadcaster, that the Iraqi fund would be used to rebuild public service institutions in the capital. “Iraq will help Somalia in the rehabilitation of Lazaretti (also known as Forlanini) Hospital and Somali Institute of Development Administration and Management (SIDAM),” said the deputy minister. She underlined that once rebuilt; the hospital would resume taking care of mental patients while SIDAM would resume training of personnel. Source: Hiiraan.com

Eri8: Is their anybody supporting ethiopia on building the dam?the other nile nations On 14 May 2010 at Entebbe, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda signed a new agreement on sharing the Nile water even though this agreement raised strong opposition from Egypt and Sudan. Ideally, such international agreements should promote equitable and efficient usage of the Nile basin's water resources. Without a better understanding about the availability of the future water resources of the Nile River, we could expect more conflicts between these countries relying on the Nile for their water supply, economic and social developments. |

KidStranglehold: again your an idiooot. somaliland is state inside somalia, and the people who live there are one small clan out ...they make up less than 10 percent of somalias population, and their leaders seek to have that region as an independent country......no one has recognised them for 20 years..... not all people in somaliland support ethiopia.....but 95 percent of somalis support egypt. the somali government already said it supports egypt.....and thats the official somali governments position. |

Somalis dont fear death and die by the hundreds of thousands somalia is the only nation that has destroyed ethiopia time and time again we are good at guriella warfare and believe in jihad thats why ethiopia left somalia in 2009 after three years of getting whoopped by a bunch of teenagers and lets not forget ahmed gurey who in 1500's destroeyd all of ethiopia and enslaved them all |
