Former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma, Saturday blamed the leadership of the country for what he described as the near collapse of all sectors of the economy and the current security challenges.

Danjuma spoke in Zaria shortly after the traditional title of Jarmai Zazzau was conferred on him by the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, for his philanthropic gestures and role in uplifting education in Nigeria.

In Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan offered his felicitations to Danjuma on the conferment of the traditional title on him, saying the former minister has made huge contributions towards community and institutional development in different sections of the country.

But the former minister lamented in his post-conferment speech that the entire national economy was in tatters. He said the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency could not be won by the use of strong-arm tactics in a country with a wide disparity between the rich few and the masses who can barely eke out a decent living.

Danjuma said Nigeria, in general, and the North, in particular, had never lacked politicians but regretted that what was in short supply were patriotic leaders who could give the nation a clear sense of direction.

Danjuma added that the present situation in the country called for sober reflection rather than resort to inflammatory statements and political tantrums ahead of the 2015 elections. He said, however, that despite the many years of mismanaged opportunities and resources, the country could be brought back to the path of progress and rebuilt to achieve greatness, if there was peace and genuine reconciliation among the political leaders.

Jonathan, in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said, “The president believes that General Danjuma’s splendid career in the Armed Forces and public service of the Federation, as well as his colossal philanthropy and generosity to communities in all geopolitical zones of the country have ensured that he will be continually honoured and celebrated by an appreciative nation.”

The present recalled the former Chief of Army Staff’s recent donation of over N2 billion to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for the construction of a new library, lecture hall, auditorium and administrative block and prayed God to grant him many more years of service to his fatherland.

Does he think we have forgotten how he was dubiously awarded an OPL licence for and OML block and how he consequently spent next to nothing and the field had already been proven to be rich in oil find and he also evaded paying any royalties/taxes to the government,just because his then good frien, OBJ was president?He went ahead to sell the oil block and made huge profit(that's why he was loosely talking sometime ago that he made a profit of $500 million US) and didn't know what to do with it,of which I hear trhe profit was way higher than that.

It pains the heart that people who can hardly manage the affairs of their home are gullibly voted into power by Nigerians who would rather vote for you because of the 'goodluck' in your name than the content of your character and managerial capabilty.

At least Danjuma is contributing positively. All of them are thieves or have been thieves but how many of them have donated to universities, hospitals or other good causes? How many of them preach the truth regarding present inequality in Nigeria? Buhari himself has never contributed to society as much as Danjuma has, in my opinion.

Defeating BH definitely involves lethal force. However, defeating the ideology that propagates the BH cause involves addressing the huge gap in wealth and well-being between a very few and the infinite majority in Nigeria. That is exactly what he meant and that is the absolute truth.

Before I read this article I must say, its a embarrassing these ex statesmen have no shame, its sad dat they where all 1s giving opportunities to change our world but they failed, but instead add to the demise of the country and now the country has gone beyond there reach, they come out to cry foul play. General Theophilus Danjuma is of the few trust friends and backbone President Jonathan have in Nigeria today. But for saying the truth that our leader (including Jona) are not patriotic - he is now tagged Boko Haram. For your information Gen. Danjuma is a dedicated Christian. Shame on PDP and touts here.

Imagine your very own body Guard...head of your security for that matter, turning aroung to brutally murder you. So much for loyalty.
