City sporting director Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano, the chief executive, held talks in London yesterday with Juventus officials and reached agreement on a fee that is partially performance related and worth £10 million.
Although, Tévez has not yet agreed personal terms on a prospective three-year deal but there is hope that he will be in Turin on Thursday to undergo a medical. If personal negotiations do progress smoothly and there is no unexpected hitch with the medical, the deal could be completed within 48 hours.
Tévez’s departure would leave City with only Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero as front-line senior strikers but new manager Manuel Pellegrini is satisfied at how the transfer window is developing.
His top targets, winger Jesus Navas and midfielder Fernandinho, have already been secured at a combined outlay of more than £50 million and, although the club will continue to evaluate their attacking options, Pellegrini wants to give Dzeko a more prominent role next season. Dzeko had been a target of Chelsea but Pellegini has made it clear that the Bosnia forward is a key part of his plans, which might make it difficult for the Blues to land him at Stamford Bridge next season.
