ASUP UPDATE!!!

By Bello Wahab O.

I don't actually blame GEJ over the ASUP strike because we don't have the right people representing ASUP.
In the scenerio we are, ASUP is supposed to have involved other bodies such as the NLC, so that the Government will give an instant response to their demand because he wouldn't want to cripple the economy in terms of finance.
A BIG question is "where are the graduates of this same polytechnics?" because this fight is not only for the benefit of the students but for them as well because so many of them have been castigated for their degree that so many of them now live in agorophobia.
We should all come together as one before we can move against the stampede of our rapacious and kleptomaniac leaders if not we would all be crushed like ants.
The doctors want to give a warning strike & thatwill be the Government's top priority against the bark of the toothless dog such as ASUP.
Imagine the minister of Education saying she did not know ASUP was on strike and yet there were protests on the streets by these same people. If you don't take the bull by the horn, how will you control it.
Involve these bodies, involve the media, involve yourselves... That's the way to get the Government's attention not by patrolling the street and saying we are protesting.
The times of strength is gone, now is the time for wisdom.

ASUP UPDATE!!!
03-07-13

The Senate yesterday waded into the face-off between the federal government and polytechnic teachers, who have been on strike for the past three months.
ASUP had proceeded on an indefinite strike on April 29 to compel the government to implement the agreement it reached with the union in October 2009.
Among the demands of ASUP is the implementation of the agreed consolidated tertiary institutions' salary structure (CONTISS).
Worried by the lull in the nation's polytechnics, the Senate Committee on Education yesterday held a closed-door meeting with polytechnic lecturers and relevant ministers where during which they appealed to the lecturers to call off the strike and return to the classroom.
They also asked the federal government to implement the agreement it had earlier reached with them.
According to a source at the meeting, which had in attendance Rufa'i and her counterpart in Labour and Productivity Ministry, Chief Emeka Wogu, the lecturers accused the government of not establishing governing councils in all the polytechnics as earlier agreed.
He said the lecturers alleged that the trend had created a situation where the affected institutions are run by cartels.
He added that the lecturers complained of the dichotomy in salary structure in polytechnics and universities.
According to him, the committee observed that if some polytechnic lecturers now hold doctoral degrees, it might not be totally out of place if they were equally remunerated like their university counterparts.

NB.- 1.dichotomy with the lecturers salary structure not about the students degree
2. Just two days into ASUU strike, the government have negotiated with them now waiting for their reply
