TROUBLE SHOOTING A MODEM.
Learn to fix your Modem

You don’t need an AK47 to fix your Modem when you find it difficult to connect to the internet. Trouble shooting is the process of detecting and fixing problems associated with any device.

After reading through this conversation, article you will be able to effectively trouble shoot problems of Connecting your Modem to the internet.

Grin grin…. Grin……. Grin…. (phone ringing).
Appswheel: Hello
Caller: Hi, pls I need you to help me with my Modem – it is not connecting.

Appswheel: What error message do you get when you try to connect.
Caller: the graphical interface does not open. It gives an error message as soon as I connect it to the USB port.

Appswheel: Ok. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Goto the control panel >>Programs. Locate the software application and uninstall it.
Restart your computer, plugin the MODEM in your USB port. Reinstall the software.
Caller: Thank you. I will ring back when I am done
Appswheel: Ok.

Beep Beep (Message notice)
“Thank You, My Modem is working well now.”.

When you find it difficult to connect your Modem. Follow the steps described below to trouble shoot your Modem.
1. Check if you have active data on your modem.
2. Check if the SIM in your Modem is properly placed.
With an active subscription and SIM properly placed; if problem still persists continue with step 3
3. Change the USB port.
4. Check the network signal strength on the modem connection graphical interface… if network signal is weak it may not connect.
5. Uninstall and reinstall Modem software.
If method described above fails. Use the Modem on another PC. If problem persist contact your Service Provider or return to point of purchase if still within the product warranty period. (At Appswheel our Universal Modem is sold with a 6 Month warranty period. It Sales for #4500).

Follow the steps below if Modem connects but not browsing.
1. Check if you have active data on your Modem.
2. If it is a Huawei Modem, and your operating system is Windows 7/above; ensure it is set to RAS Modem. Refer to the article pinned to this page for the procedure.
3. Click on the network connection icon on your task bar (system tray – always on the far right corner), under Dial-up and VPN, highlight and right click on your current connection.
Now the Network status Dialogue box is displayed.
4. Under the Activity category, observe if the amount of data sent is greater than the data received. (if this is the case disconnect and reconnect the modem connection. Otherwise proceed with step 5).
5. On the Network Status Dialogue box, Click on the Properties button (located at the bottom left corner). Now the Modems Properties Dialogue box is displayed
6. Click on the Networking Tab, then, Highlight “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4)” and Click Properties.
7. On the resulting TCP/IPv4 Dialogue box, Check the Obtain IP address address automatically check box, do same for DNS check box.
Alternatively,
8. Alternatively, Click on Control Panel >>>Network and Internet >>>Network and Sharing Center.
9. Under the View your active networks, click on the link display to the right of Connection (MTN/AIRTEL/GLO etc)
10. Continue from Step 4 above.
Now you are a Modem Doctor. Congratulations!!!!
Note: it is advised that you maintain the same USB port for your Modem – maintain the USB you installed it with.

More tips.
If you find it difficult to subscribe for data on your Modems Graphical interface, remove the Network SIM on your Modem and put in your phone. Recharge the needed amount for data bundle you want to subscribe to. Then dial the required
code.
