This year's edition is simply what I call the Wimbledon of crazy surprises:

Tennis ace Rafael Nadal has crashed out of Wimbledon in just the first round.

The world number five and two times Wimbledon champ suffered a surprising defeat by Steve Darcis. He was beaten in straight sets, 7-6 7-6 6-4, by Steve Darcis of Belgium - who is ranked 135 in the world. Nadal, who won the French Open just two weeks ago, had never previously lost in the first round of a major tournament.

Roger Federer and "his ego" took an unbelievable battering at the hands of a little-known Ukrainian as the Swiss champion and holder of a record 17 grand slam titles was sent spinning out of Wimbledon on a day dubbed as 'Whacky Wednesday'.

A record that took 36 grand slams and nine years to create was turned on its head by 116th-ranked Sergiy Stakhovsky who rocked the All England Club to its core as he inflicted a brutal 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-5 7-6(5) second-round defeat on a man he called a "Wimbledon legend".

Tennis champion, Maria Sharapova and player, Caroline Wozniacki both required treatment after nasty tumbles during shock defeats on No 2 Court. Sharapova, who slipped in almost the same spot as Wozniacki, complained to the umpire "this court is dangerous". Seven players pulled out with injuries recently, many directly blaming the hallowed turf. Wozniacki claims the grass is longer while Sharapova opines the plane is just dangerous.
