Princek12:

If we are so smart why are we still living in darkness in 2013?

good question.. this means Nigerians think they are smart.. but, like you said ,any smart person that realizes its 2013 and he or she is still in darkness, would ask serious questions..Which Nigerians aren't asking......
If I'm correct the conclusion is Nigerians think they are smart.. but examining closely the truth is far

Nigeria does not need USA or other countries to generate enough power for the over 160 million people.
What we need as a country is proper organization and accountability of the power contracts. Let the private sectors
compete for power generation, transmission and distribution. No government interference and corruption.
Just like the telecommunications subsector, true competition will weed out incompetent and corrupt operations.

America wey owu dey catch wella wan give $7B just like that?

The question is what they want.

Gbam! U spoke my mind o jare. I suspect that U.s wants something. Money is not Nigeria's problem when it comes to the power sector. It is mismanagement, fraud, corruption, greed, selfishness, that is our problem! Or have you heard Nigeria complain that it's because of finance we don't have stable power supply?

Obama. Talk tru...wetin u want from us?

As at 2013,if a country like Nigeria with vast resources cannot provide uninterrupted power,it means there is a problem. The leaders are bad,Yes, but what about the followers? Who are those asking the important questions like
How much power do we have currently? How much do we need? How much is it going to cost to generate what we need? How can we prevent the funds from developing wings?
When we find answers to these questions that's when there will be progress...not side tracking by talking about NGF,APC or EFCC but by saying no more to darkness and holding the government responsible.

The chinese is africa's best bet in resolving the problem of power in sub sahara africa. America is already feeling the heat of chinese dominance in key sectors in africa development. We have to ask ourselves why all this interest and billion dollars promises now. South sudan, Angola, Senegal are all doing well in the area of infrastructural developments today, all thanks to the chinese development assistance.

Two-thirds of the population of sub-Saharan Africa lacks access to electricity, including more than 85% of those living in rural areas, the White House said.
This is a big fat lie

Obama no be so nao..the problem isn't lack of fund...a failed presidential cabinete would never permit the incumbents achieve what they failed to achieve...u pple (US) should come down to get it done..I'm sure most nigerians would appreciate that

emmaeyo: Nigeria does not need money from the US to solve our light problem...Nigeria is meant to be a great nation, we are rich enough, with the smartest citizens. The problem is not the money, it has never been about the money... Nigeria should be the one changing the worlds view of Africa,... it's time Nigerians realize that Nigeria is not a poor nation, and the country should stop disguising itself as one....9ja 4eva

you better wake up from your dream and face the reality.....Nigeria should just bow and accept this money that the U.S is giving it....how can a third world nation be so arrogant? imagine?

African nations are idiiots because the Chinese are providing them with very cheap low quality military weapons and technology and they are happy about it.....LOL people in China dont even buy Chinese made goods....they strictly want U.S made goods...it seems to me like Africans are just meant to be slaves....

But if the U.S doesn't give money yo complain that they dont do anything for Nigeria...and if they give money you complain

that they are giving it to corrupt politicians....Negros just cant be pleased..always complaining

I hope you guys can pause for a minute and REFLECT:

The same Obama that has been to AFRICA TWICE ....and never bothered to VISIT NIGERIA (went to Ghana next door!) is the one that would include Nigeria in the $7Billion GREEK GIFT?

C'mmon, Nigerians are way smarter than this.

China does not care about anyone, not even its own! wink wink

The difference is that China does not care, does not PRETEND to care and does not GRANDSTAND about Democracy, freedom of speech, Liberty and all that Yankee Bulshyte that comes out of Washing-in-ton.

I would rather dine with the DEVIL I KNOW..... than some slimy, opportunistic Chameleon

The program includes $1.5 billion from the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation and $5 billion from the Export-Import Bank, the White House said.

Basically the idea is that US companies (GE, etc) will benefit from this move. They will get power contracts, supply equipment, etc, so it's not just a "dash", the US will benefit from this move too.

How come Egyptians are back out on the street one yr after the revolution demanding the incumbent leader to step down for non performance, same situation in Brazil and Turkey people are out in the streets by the hundreds of thousands demanding change and rallying against corruption. But in Nigeria we are so docile and laid back like nothing spoil no wonder our leaders spent 17billion$ to generate darkness instead of light because they know we are cowards.
