Of course we are happy people!
Though we have no reliable electricity from PHCN - Still we've got our Japan generators giving us light when we need it.
And though we can't get adequate water from the Water board - Still privately dug boreholes/wells are doing just fine for us.
And since we can't get jobs - some of us have 'lazily' turned to kidnapping to make ends meet and the rest of us 'conscientious folks' are doing some meagre jobs or small business.
Did I forget? With our educational system falling more and more yearly - Miracle centers are on the rise and JAMB cut off mark reduced.
And need I talk about the state of our roads and infrastructures? - Why bother? We are all 'walking' it off and where we can't we simply 'Strike' it off.
Of course Nigerians are happy people, yet churches are on the rise, as the people seek consolation 'desperately' in God.
Yeah ... We are happy people alright.

fela say it all

Every day, for house
Every day, for road
Every day, for bus
Every day, for work
My people, my people
My people, my people
We now have to carry our minds
Out of those goddamn places
Back into this musical contraption
Right opposite you
Now we are back here
This is what happens to we Africans every day
Now wetin I want tell you now
Na secret o
Na confidential matter
Don't tell anybody outside
Na between me and you
Now listen
As I dey say before
E dey happen to all of us every day
We Africans all over the world
Now listen
[Chorus]
Suffering and smiling!
Every day my people dey inside bus
Every day my people dey inside bus
Forty-nine sitting, ninety-nine standing
Them go pack themselves in like sardine
Them dey faint, them dey wake like cock
Them go reach house, water no dey
Them go reach bed, power no dey
Them go reach road, go-slow go come
Them go reach road, police go slap
Them go reach road, army go whip
Them go look pocket, money no dey
Them go reach work, query ready
Every day na the same thing
Every day na the same thing
Every day na the same thing
Every day na the same thing
Suffer, suffer for world...
How many, many a many you go make?
Many, many...
How many, many a many you go make?
Many, many...
How many, many a many you go make?
Many, many...
How many, many a many you go make?
Many, many...

We are a people that can hardly hide our excitement at seeing family and friends. Some misconstrue this thinking we are loud but let’s just say we are EXPRESSIVE! If you see us on the streets of New York making a big ruckus and hugging? No sweat. We are just happy to see each other. lol

I think our being happy doesn't have a special reason, we choose to be happy nd that is why we are happy.
Its our choice to be. smiley

I get your sarcasm, except the borehole part. What's wrong with using boreholes? Some people abroad now limit the number of times they bath in a week because of escalating water bills. If I have a choice anywhere I'll choose borehole.

I don't think I have the time to break it down for all to understand..

Our happiness comes from the fact that we are 'religious'..

scandinavian countries (denmark, iceland, norway, sweden, finland etc) populate that list because they have HIGH quality of life and least income disparity even by gender.
their governments are strong and very protective of its citizens.
students get paid to go to school!! men and women have generous materity and paternity leave etc. free child care and healthcare, u name it!

the people are CONTENT. content is the right word here. happiness is fleeting and without sadness there won't be happiness. so being happy has to mean that you were previously sad. happiness is a temporary high.
contentment is a better word and describes a serene state of mind.

This one of the things politicians are using to continually exploit nigerians. They are very much aware of the fact that we don't complain about anything-happy people, so I guess we'll continue to suffer the price of been happy-i.e exploitation.

Why won't you say you are happy shuffering n shmilling ppl.when there is no light you must be happy. When road no good you must be happy. When there is no justice in the country and massive corruption prevails, why won't you say you are happy? When life expectancy dwindles yearly and preventable disease cut ppl life short, you Must be haapy
