bella berry: It's quite sad that these guys have lost their source of livelihood, but truth be told, they should move on (perhaps to Keke business)rather than engage the govt in a long drawn battle. It wouldn't yield any results in the end.

Well, its painful because these people actually have a life to live. Some dnt have money 4 a keke napeb. Its similar to a story I read here http://umehoma..com

duni04: Security risk or not, in a truly civilized society, nobody wakes up one morning and bans this or that. Its ludicrous! As long as its not in the state or federal statutes, nobody has a right to prevent me from doing whatever i want. Wonder why someone should spend an arm and a leg on getting a bike and then have one drunken idiot in black uniform harass him on the road while going about my truly 'legal' daily job just because of what one drunken, corrupt governor woke up one morning and uttered. Its high time people were made aware of their rights in this country. Its bad enough that the politicians steal all our money and render people to menial jobs like okada riding. To then take away what remains of us that's just criminal. I say sue the governors Ass!

Lol!

What rights exactly?

And who is stopping you from owning an Okada? Own one, ride it around and face the consequences..

It's funny when people who don't even know their rights dey advice others about their rights.. grin

we should'nt be insensitive to the plight of nigerians the fact that we are oppourtuned to to eat three square meals doesnt mean others can. they are ways to integrate this folks into a new system of transportation like consultation witht their leaders to help sensitise its members on the ill and dangers of this bikes and go ahead to craete a credit scheme where this bikes could be handed off to some vendors in exchange for the bikes and hand them a juicy payment plan and u would see if this people would revolt. but u cannot jst wake up and ban or take away a human beings source of lively hood even if u say they are perpetrating all sorts of crimes. I give u an instance on the news the other day CNN showed to the world where goverment approved centres were established for junkies to go and take shots of cocain in a responsible manner because they accept the fact that this guys are junkies and theres nuffin they can do abt that so they intelligently opened up this centres. like wise this bikers are already addits their trade so i expect the government to systematically gradually integrate them into the his new vision and not forcefully ban them cus a human being has one primary role on earth which to to survive, adapt and live.

Na Today?

Sensitisation has been done severally In many states across the country prior to these bans. Even Fashola tried to regulate them by forcing them to buy helmets and reflector jackets.. But guess what?! It never worked. They remained reckless, kept weaving in and out of traffic with impunity, kept riding on highways which they were not supposed to and kept breaking the law. In states like Rivers State, they even formed an association where they would gather at the scene of an accident involving a car and an Okada and lynch the driver or even burn the vehicle. The truth was they had to go.. Period.

A credit scheme? There are small scale savings and loans banks all over the place, but these people are not interested. If they wanted to have access to these credit facilities, it was there but the truth is that these people just don't give a fvck. Now many states provided these Keke Napep for them upon banning the use of Okadas for commercial transport and guess what, the bad riding continued. Now they have been banned within city limits, not in the entire state. Of they want to keep riding, they should move to the outskirts of the city where they can operate freely. In Port harcourt for example, places like Elele and iguruta still have Okadas. If you must ride, go there,,

Oshiomole said during his wife's burial (God rest her soul) that he rode a bike from his village with her on it to her village to meet with her people. imagine if bikes were not permitted. angry
excuse me but most kidnap cases were done with flashy 'cars' not bikes.
Banning private bikes whether we like it or not would not include power bike owners who belong to the elite. tongue
also people like Esama that move with escort bikes would or may not be stopped. wink
courier companies like UPS would not be stopped. undecided
private bike riders like some security men and messengers in Uniben, State Secretariat and Central Hospital must now look for funds to buy cars. sad
even in developed countries private people are allowed to use bikes. embarassed
physically challenged people now must take drop whether they can afford it or not because if they take bus, they would be dropped at their street junctions and made to walk home. sad
Ekiti, Ogun and other ACN first term governors would also be nursing the plan to ban bikes after their re-elections. smiley
some people say these riders should move on, step up, learn trade, I mean excuse you angry some of these bike riders are educated, they started the job cos of no viable alternatives, some are very professional and disciplined (helmet, papers, license and all). what trade? learn how to carry sewing machine, become brick layers, work in some greedy private schools and earn peanuts? I tell you danfo driver, BRT drivers, Dangote truck drivers, etc did not learn any trade to be drivers, so why can't bike riders be so regarded like these drivers? angry angry angry
finally, for now anywayz, you may think fighting government is a lost battle, but you would be shocked that thses people will win this case. I wish them well.
