The kind of news one hears these days.
Thank God for sparing the lives of the judge, lawyers and innocent by standers. They could have entered voicemail while discharging their duties.
The prison warders however have an explanation to tender.

Never seen a tribe with enough liver like Edo; Nollywood should start featuring more of them to act in action movies. Saint Obi looks it but can't act it

careytommy: Why will the Judge sentence armed robners to death? did they kill during their operation?

Concentrate in your line of business and leave Law and legal interpretation to lawyers. The law books says the penalty for armed robbery upon trial and conviction is death penalty. Until the law is changed, it remains the law. If you want it changed, approach the National Assembly and request for a review of the Criminal Code to that effect. Until that is done, Lawyers and judges follow the law as stated in the books.

If i hear one word from you again......

grin grin They were running for their "dear lives" when they themselves have been threatening people and causing mayhem in the community. I'm happy they were re-arrested.

Those guards on duty really have some questions to answer. They must explain why the robbers were even able to escape from the doors f he courtroom. What if they had snatched a gun from any of the guards, it would have been a bloody situation in that out that day.
This should serve as a lesson for everybody given any responsibility, no matter how small, to carry it out judiciously. We must learn to do away with laxity and I-don't-care attitude.

An average armed robber in Nigeria is not as deadly as an average politician like uduagban.Yet,politicians like uduagban get pats on the back for stealing billions that consequently kills thousands of innocent Nigeria. While hapless robbers that steals to fill their stomachs are sentenced to death for failed robbery that didn't cost a life.

Nigerian judges are low life monkeys, just like the politicians and police. They are the immortal enemies of the people.

I'm amazed at how a two count charge would warrant a death penalty in a country where the whole judicial system is corrupt and politicians keeps looting billions of dollars everyday.
Stories like this will never make one a patriotic citizen cos of the get rich or die trying syndrome.
Is a death penalty equivalent to a two count charge of armed robberry? Nigerian youths let's speak up against injustice.

TITLE: Two Condemned Robbers Escape From Courtroom In Warri
BY AUSTIN OGWUDA
ASABA — THERE was com-motion at an Asaba High Court, yesterday, as two robbery suspects took everybody unawares and escaped from the court room immediately the judge sentenced them to death by hanging, having found them guilty on two-count charges of armed robbery.

The two suspects who were in the dock without handcuffs jumped out, and became violent, used a wooden barricade used to block traffic leading to the court to hit prison officials chasing them.

The convicts were one Elvis Agbofodo and Frank Okedema both from Ekpan community, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

Prosecution had told the court that they robbed the residence of one Mrs. Mercy Omatseye of valuables and cash on July 8, 2010.

Both of them were, however, re-arrested with the assistance of the residents of the area. One of the them was shot by armed prisons official who pursued him to a nearby church premises, about 100 metres from the court.

As a result of the incident which took place at about 11.30 am, further proceedings in the court were disrupted as the judge, court officials and lawyers scampered for safety as gun shots rented the air.

New Controller of Prisons in the state, Mr. Joseph Olanrele, had during a recent courtesy visit to the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Charles Ajuyah (SAN) expressed worry over the large number of condemned criminals in various prison formations across the state, noting that it was worrisome as they (condemned criminals) constantly create problems for prison officials looking after them while awaiting the hangman.

Ajuyah, on his part condemned the use of phones by some inmates even while in the court, saying such act is capable of undermining security of officials and inmates

Not hand cuffing them is the trick used by nigerian police to lure them to escape that gives them the reason to shoot them as soon as as they make the move to run. Some times the police even deliberately set them on the run to justify the need to kill them extrajudicially.

The life of a hapless criminal is not worth a pin, even though the leaders themselves, including the judges and police are all born criminals.

I can imagine. This is why these dangerous men must always be shackled. It just seems like madness every time one sees public parades, in Nigeria, of very dangerous criminals who are not restrained at all.

Reality of Nigeria. I remember the army arrested and cuffed the Boko Haram leader Mohammed Yusuf. They handed him over to the men of the NPF alive. Suddenly we hear he was shot dead while "trying to escape police custody".

http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/29044-how-boko-haram-leader-yusuf-was-arrested-by-army-chief.html

The witness on October 24 testified that Yusuf was handed over to the Police alive by the Nigerian Army.
Col. Ahanotu said the original copy of the handover note was with the police authority in Maiduguri. According to him, Yusuf was arrested by his men following an intelligence report that he was hiding in an enclave. He was arrested as his men fled in disarray from the enclave.

So what's your own solution to the problem of lawlessness and crminality which is endemic to nigerians?

Should you blame the culture, the parents, the society, the sexually loose mores, the civil war, the slave trade, the whites/westerners, what exactly?

And while you're at it, why not recognise the contribution of baby farms to this phenomenon? When babies are sown and reared like cash crops for export and sale to the highest bidder, why wont they turn out this way?
