Again U.K. works to stop foreigners stealing from honest tax payers! Non-EU nationals who come to the UK for more than six months could be charged at least £200 a year to access NHS treatment, it will be announced later. The charge - an attempt to crack down on so-called "health tourism" - will be on top of visa charges, officials say. This will help stop a lot of waste treating non tax payers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-23156403 |

In a way I think it is a good idea, afterall people have to get Health insurance before going to European countries and highly recommended if you are going to USA as they will flatly refuse you treatment without insurance Implementation would be the problem though |

Its not bad. £200 pounds a year. Got kidney problems?? heart problems?? liver problems?? Find a way to get a visa to the uk, *faint on the street in a busy shopping center * ambulance gets you * doctors finds out you have other serious problems * they ask for money for operations Tell them to ask the British Embassy in Nigeria, you paid already! chikena!! 8 Likes |

i wont blame them for having an interest to protect after all if they had abuse their health system foreigners would not have left their dilapidated Health system at home pursuing better ones in some foreign land ... most especially Nigerians |

I think it's now time to start my herbal medicine business, lots of people will abandoned the NHS for alternative methods of treatment. |

Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by dare2think: 2:09pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
ZIM DRILL: Ofcouse not. Why would you jump up a list when people are on the list already? Explain to me why they are collecting the health insurance money if they are not going to give the health services? If the brits will be ahead, then they should not collect the money, that would be fraud. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Nobody: 2:09pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
This is unclear. Is this £200 added to the cost of say a 2, 5 or 10 year visa?? So if you have a 10year tourist/student visa you could be paying 10*200?? Yes?? No?? And does the 200 quid cover any and every ailment? I hope not cos I already see loopholes. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by justwise(m): 2:22pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
OMO IBO: This is unclear. This applies to people staying for more than 6months only and its paid yearly, not all treatment is free in NHS even for British citizens. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by abes(m): 2:36pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
Does this apply to non-eu citizens that are working and paying taxes? |

So most of those ladies forming and saying..."I'm going to give birth in UK" have all been exploiting the UK health system. £200 is still a fair price to have access to their healthcare system. "London oni baje oo". |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Nobody: 3:31pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
justwise:Brethren, As long as you pay your taxes and make NI contributions the nhs is not free. But hey, I digress. Here's my grouse with this proposal. If I have, say a 12 month visa on my passport and I choose to spend say 48hours with a loved one enroute my final destination which may or may not be anywhere in the EU. I'm still gonne have to fork out this amount. This amount should be payable only buy students and people with ILR at the time of applying for visa. Tourists and buisness men/women should only make this payment at the point of entry. And ofcourse must be refunded as/when they leave provided they haven't strayed. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by DisGuy: 3:36pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
^^ I dont think Students and ILR holders should have to pay this, should be restricted to visitors only and should be refundable I dont know why they dont request for health insurance instead before granting visas |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by justwise(m): 3:40pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
OMO IBO: No you don't pay, this is for people coming to stay here for a yr or more. Though i have to agree with you that NHS is not free in real sense of it, but its free for people on benefit. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by justwise(m): 3:41pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
Dis Guy: ^^ This is unfair to foreign students. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by DisGuy: 3:46pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
Absolutely, they are already paying through the nose for fees and healthcare should be covered for the duration of their studies I'm assuming most ILR holders wil be working hence paying taxes visitors are the main culprits, thousands of people popping babies several years after their 6months visa expired NHS is really a softie- good in a way but not efficient in the long term |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Nobody: 3:47pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
Health insurance from the applicants country of residence?? Bruv, does nigeria ring a bell?? Naija people will forge the living day light out of every paper, ink, text and font on that insurance document. Students and people with ILR should be charged cos they'll be the real beneficiaries of the system and welfare. The others are only passing through. Hence the refund as/when the leave the country |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by DisGuy: 3:50pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
perhaps they could make the health insurance from UK companies, application will be made at point of entry |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Nobody: 3:53pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
justwise:Actually, the health secretary said 'Non-EU nationals coming to England for more than six months could be charged £200 a year to access NHS treatment. The charge, added to visa costs for students, is among proposals unveiled in a government consultation. In otherwards, as long as you have anything above 6months visa on your passport you will be charhed 200 quid regardless how long you actually stay In the country or if you even visited the country |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by bethnals: 5:06pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
lol the money to be gotten from this is peanuts: its all aimed at shifitng the blame as to why britaim is broke on foreginers/immigrants. Whem in reality the banks have looted the country finish! Same way nigerians like to blame Hausa/fulani for all naija's woes i.e. 'it wasnt me sir' |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Nobody: 6:06pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
To the guys rejoicing it is only £200, the article says minimum £200 per year. No upper limit. So you could find yourself paying £10k annually. Secondly would this include people on work permit who presumably are working paying income tax and N.I.? Would that not be double taxation? First it was £3k bond now this! Haba this govt. wan beat recession by all means. |
Re: Foreigners To Be Charged To Access UK's NHS by Naijamericana: 6:31pm On Jul 03, 2013 |
That is really cheap! I would suggest an American model by charging by service Initial Consultation - 300 Follow up - 150 Appendectomy - 2500 Anesthesia - 500/hour Baby Delivery - 5000 C-Section - 10,000 |

Where are the people (especially forsbel and co) who always insult Nigerian doctors for not giving patients free treatment? The funny thing is that they always use the NHS as an example. I guess you guys can now see that there is no free lunch anywhere. Any service you use freely is paid for by someone. |

and there was a topic here (i believe the cost of USA birth topic) where some people where saying that giving birth in UK is free, its not just Nigerians that annoy me with this leeching off the NHS. Americans are known for abusing the NHS, after all if you don't have health insurance buying a ticket for $800 is nothing when you might have to bankrupt yourself to get treated over there. A lot of oyinbo ex pats also fall foul of the rules - think of all the english people in France and Spain |
