No, if you download the app frm Playstore it will even show u "update" and not "install". So of course the new version will replace the old follow-come version.

I will suggest you Remove the app and reinstall
if you don't have its apk file, try to extract it with X-plore app and copy it into any location. Or uninstall and download again
