Ameobi Wants To Represent Nigeria At The World Cup by sammietos(m): 7:10pm On Jul 15, 2013 |
Newcastle striker Sola Ameobi has stated his desire to represent the Super Eagles at the 2014 World Cup scheduled to take place in Brazil. Ameobi who has a single cap for Nigeria in the friendly game against Venezuela in Miami, November 2011 missed the last African Cup of Nations in South Africa due to a clause in his Newcastle contract which stopped him. With the clause removed, Ameobi has shown his readiness to play again for Nigeri, with coach Stephen Keshi also making known his intention to hand him an invitation to the squad. "It would be incredible for me to represent Nigeria again. And to help them qualify for the World Cup would make it extra special," "I've got to get into this incredibly talented team, make sure I give my best, show my experience and make a significant contribution," he said. "I made my (Nigeria) debut at 31, now here I am and hopefully my experience will enable me to develop at this level. "Every player is looking to play at the World Cup. I think we've got every chance of qualifying - but we must fight and earn the right to be there, he said" With the Super Eagles slated to play the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on 14 August in Durban, there is a great opportunity for Ameobi to make a return, before Nigeria play Malawi in the World Cup qualifier in September. Coach Keshi will release his team list for the South Africa game this week. http://www.nisotpost.com/2013/07/15/sports/ameobi-wants-to-represent-nigeria-at-the-world-cup/ |
