CNN Rejects FG Advert On GEJ Visit To China by MAYOWAAK: 10:22am On Jul 16, 2013
The International news network CNN has rejected an advertorial sent to it by the Nigeria government to promote the recent five days visit of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to the People's Republic of China.

The advert which was already paid for by the Government was to highlight some of the key areas of achievement of the visit. But the CNN said the advert had some political undertone and rejected the advert but did not release the money . It requested the money be "kept for future businesses" with Nigeria which obviously did not go down well with the Nigerian government.

The FG government has demanded more explanation from CNN and may consider severing all ties with CNN and also banning government officials from granting any form of interview with CNN in the future.

The Nigerian government sees this action by CNN as unprofessional and against the rule of journalism. - Doyin Okupe.

There you have it! The jamboree by President Jonathan and his entire cabinet and the extended factional arm of the People's Democratic Party Governors' Forum to China was to spite President Barack Obama for ignoring Nigeria during his tour of African countries. To show how clueless the Transformer in charge of the amorphous Transformation Agenda which has become a mantra for every official of government, less than 24 hours after leaving China, he sent an advert to CNN to showcase and promote his success in obtaining a loan facility to the tune of $3 billion [USD].

The questions are legion, but we must ask them; ''Why CNN, why not NTA or African Independent Television which is fast becoming pro-government? How many Nigerians, especially the hoi polloi watch CNN? Does charity no longer begins at home? Now that they have paid for advert on CNN and the request was turned down because Ted Turner would rather be in the good book of Uncle Sam rather than enrich himself with the lucre from a 'money-miss-road' Oga at the top, what then is the lot of the money already paid for advert, against the background of the impending sanction on government officials doing business with CNN? The ossussu don enter voice mail? Dis na real ogbonge one chance! Why go to CNN, when you can engage the services of your's truly at a lesser fee to propagate the dividends of the jamboree to China. By the way, does the gag on government officials include Oga at the Rock? Christiane Amanpour will not be happy about this development because I know she most certainly must have been expecting another brown envelop from lobbyist of the transformation regime to have Oga on the hot seat once again.

The big question is, why not NTA ( Nigerian Television Authority )? Is NTA International no longer the largest TV network in Africa and our reach out station? Yeye indeed dey smell! CNN don do Oga the thing ala 419. The least they should have done is to return the ossussu without delay! Which one be future business? But all the blame goes to the Transformer and his team wey no sabi!!!!!!!!!

I will appreciate you become more logical in your analysis of the politics behind the visit to china vis- a-vis advertorial request to CNN or you maintain a studied silent. I would have been insultive but on a second thought I could be responding to a paid agent or a rookie.
To set the record straight, Nigeria as a sovereign nation holds no country or Organisation any apology for choosing whoever, he aligns with or does business with just as Obama or America holds us no apology for skipping the country in the said tour, hence, CNN is only being greenhorned and childish by not airing the advert which intent though might spite the American government( depending on the light it is seen) but is mainly to promote the investment drive in Nigeria. The target audience ain't locals in Nigeria but foreign interest and that is why the choice of CNN. The action negates the rule of international journalism and the U.S has once again exposed the hypocrisy in them. They should refund the money or face a legal action. The term of contract is for the China visit and Nigerian govt should not settle for anything else.
I am delighted at the development. China is more humane if I may say, with less interference in the internal runnings in the affairs of partner nations, a sharp contrast with the American govt who gives nothing without string attached.
Mr Mayowaak, you need not take to criticisms in every action of your govt. I thinknigeria has acted fairly ok, in this regard.

Whatever the case maybe or whatever the name they may call it, CNN need to return the money, as soon as possible.

these americans don 'yahoo' us. And they will be arresting our guys for fraudulence.

Why must they pay to CNN to advertise for us when we have NTA international? And this government will be telling us to patronise locally manufactured goods

@Elueme. You are a genius. You made my day fantastic opinion. CNN remains the best channel globally. CNN isn't professional.
