I've been think of creating this list for 2 weeks or so and I finally did. This isn't everything but the kitchen sink, but it sure goes a long way to help aspiring (and already writing/typing) writers. Please, add yours. 1. WORDWEB I use this for quick dictionary meaning, synonyms, nearest in meaning, pronunciation of words, spellings and the group each word is associated with. You can also use it to look up Wikipedia, Wikitionary and WordWeb online resources. 2. SPELLCHECK.NET Though I've been writing for quite a while, but I'm not perfect in English language. I mean, English is not my first language. It's borrowed and flops are allowed. SpellCheck.net saves the day everytime (I often get obsessed with doing this anyway). 3. GRAMMAR CHECK I just downloaded this resource while creating this list and I must say it's awesome. It checks your grammar and you have a minimal error rate. How about that? P.S: It has an almost easy learning curve. 4. PEN Crazy as this sounds, I always get disorganized when I don't see a pen around me. It makes me feel out-of-sync with reality. So, a pen is one of the 5. NOTEPAD/WRITING PAD Where else would you use your pen on if not a notepad/writing pad? Some people would like to write on their hands and laps. Sounds cool, but not enough to accommodate a pool of ideas. ------------------------------ P.S: We'll keep uploading this list until we have a comprehensive list that will benefit us. If you have yours, just add below and I'll include here with credit to you for the mention. I hope this helps a lot of writers out here. Regards, C.O.C |

6. MICROSOFT WORD We can't excuse this from the list after putting up pen and writing pad. Microsoft Word has a lot of functions in-built: think spell check, think grammar check, think synonym, think etc. It has all these. This is one resource I definitely recommend. 7. GOOGLE What would modern writers be without google? Saves us the rigorous time spent going from one almost empty library to the next in search of resources for our writing project. Its a resource that I consider the greatest of all writing resources; the genesis of modern writing itself. In it you find the solution to all writing problems. Just keep searching, and you shall find. Google tells you. By Akpozy 8. MOBILE DEVICE Well... I'll add that a nice mobile device with qwerty keypad and a notepad app could also come in handy. I for one, use my phone to jot down some emergency ideas, especially at times when a notebook and biro isn't readily available. You could also use the text message interface of your phone to save till when you can move to permanent storage. I've found out that most times my writing comes to me in bits and pieces, so its always easier to save one idea at a time, and then compile when I'm free. By RockCalvary |
