After The Post-jamb Exam, Nsukka Opens A Pre-degree Programme by danieljboy: 12:04pm On Jul 20, 2013
AFTER THE POST-JAMB EXAM
NSUKKA OPENS A PRE-DEGREE PROGRAMME
There is urgent need for this pre-degree programme so as to ease out the university admission problems currently hitting candidates seeking for admission hard.
The pre-degree program is for these categories of candidates
1. Candidates who scored below the 180 JAMB/UTM Examination cut off mark for a university admission;

2. Candidates whose JAMB/UTM Examination results were not released; and

3. Candidates who did not even write JAMB/UTM Examinations but are through with their secondary school (with or without SSCE/WASSCE results)

Some reasons for the pre-degree program include:
1. To provide an alternative or subsidiary pathway through which candidates seeking for a university admission can have viable opportunity;

2. To make sure that these candidates do not decline/depreciate academically having not really secured a university admission; therefore the pre-degree will help associate constantly with academic learning;

3. The pre-degree programme again will effectively withdraw these candidates who are predominantly adolescent youths from their homes and streets, where some of them inadvertently involve in crimes and immoralities; or constitute nuisance at home engendered by frustrations.
It is good anyway that you should know the type of pre-degree programme that we run. It is the University of Cambridge Advanced Level (‘A’ Level) programme. Now, the questions are:
Have you heard about the University of Cambridge A Level before? And what is A Level? Many people we asked these same questions seemed not to know much about it as some of their responses were ridiculous. Some of them said that A Level implies when in an examinations, for instance, the SSCE/WASSCE the candidates make all their subjects ‘A’ grade. Now, is this how you also see the A Level? If so, then, you are as well wrong!

Explanation of what A Level is
Like we mentioned in the supra-paragraphs, A Level means Advanced Level. It is a special programme of its own with distinct programme curricula. The programme is run by some higher institutions like University of Cambridge or examination bodies like WAEC; which is why we have University of Cambridge ‘A’ Level and WAEC ‘A’ Level. A Level is advancement or furthering of what one did in the Ordinary Level (O Level), that is, in the secondary school. The University of Cambridge and WAEC which issue the A Level certificates to individuals gave practice license for this proramme to some standard schools so that these schools can teach candidates for the A Level examinations. Some schools with this license run the A Level programme/courses for two (2) years. In Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies (PSPS), Nsukka, it is run for only 12 months, i.e., one year. If the candidates register for the programme now (July, 2013) and undertake the courses, then, by May/June, 2014 they would write the University of Cambridge ‘A’ Level Examinations. And by the ending of July, 2014, the results for the examinations would be out which the candidates would use for Direct Entry (DE) for the year 2014 university admission.
Remember that Direct Entry admission means that the candidates do not have to write other qualifying examinations like JAMB/UTME; and such admission is into a second year of the candidates’ dream courses.
Available evidences for use of A Level certificate for university Direct Entry admission
When you open the current JAMB/UTME Brochure against ANY course, you would observe that one of the requirements for the Direct Entry admission in any university is ‘A’ Level passes in at most three subjects. For instance, if you open the JAMB/UTME Brochure against Law, you will see that one of the requirements for Direct Entry admission is: two ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects; against Pharmacy it is: three ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology (same for Medicine and Surgery); for Chemical Engineering it is: ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics; for Mechanical Engineering it is: two ‘A’ Level passes chosen from Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics; for Accountancy, Economics, Public Administration, Banking and Finance it is: two ‘A’ Level passes chosen from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government, Geography, Statistics and Mathematics. For any other course of interest, one can check the JAMB/UTME Brochure for the ‘A’ Level subjects requirements to confirm.
In addition, when Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka started the University of Cambridge A Level programme in the year 2009 it attracted a good number of candidates seeking for university admission. Some of the candidates were easily convinced with the available evidences. However, many others were more skeptical and proved very difficult to convince. But something dramatic happened in the year 2010 that really worked together for our own good. A local monthly publishing newspaper, The Starlite, which is widely read in Nsukka (the Adada State in the making) got interested in the business of Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka; and before you know what was happening, bevy of news hunters from this publishing house were already doorstepping the able and amiable Registrar of Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka Mr. Bartho. Ude debriefing him on issues concerning ‘A’ Level and university Direct Entry admission. But these newsmen were not entirely convinced about what they were able to abstract from Mr. Registrar. So they made further steps; this time inside the University of Nigeria, Nsukka – in fact, in Admission Unit of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. And the result of their finding is what we have scanned below for you to read. Our prayer is that this item of their publication will help convince you better.

………………………………………………….//////////////////////////…………………………..
Note that on course of scanning the publication, we had masked the phone number of the erstwhile chaplain of the Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka, Rev. Fr. Anthony Eruka because he is no longer with the school. He had got a new posting outside where the school was previously situated. And again, Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka has relocated.
Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka
Basic information:
1. Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka was founded in the year 2009. It runs the University of Cambridge Advanced Level programme for Direct Entry candidates;

2. In Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka, the University of Cambridge A Level lasts for just 12 months; i.e. one year;

3. Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka also conducts separate JAMB/UTME extra mural classes for candidates who wish to write JAMB examination. The duration for the extra-mural classes is also 12 months; and the classes start from July, 2013. This length of time for preparing the JAMB candidates is necessary because JAMB Examination is also an A Level examination and should be taken seriously contrary to the way many people see it.

4. The current location of Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka is opposite the University of Nigeria, Nsukka main gate; it is a four storey building containing the hostels (self-contained rooms) with constant power and water. The accommodations are for both the A Level and JAMB candidates.

Advantages of Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka over other A Level schools
1. The location of Paracleta School of Preliminary Studies, Nsukka with respect to University of Nigeria, Nsukka affords it uncommon advantages and privileges to have access to rare human resources; culling the services of best of lecturers for our school at any time;

2. Nsukka, the town where the school is located, is in itself divinely architectured for academic learning; unlike many mega cities in Nigeria with almost all-round-the-clock pageantry, Nsukka is devoid of sights and lives and activities that distract academic studies. The only sight is the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The lives therein dictates the lives of people around such that many people who never had the intention of furthering their academic pursuits found themselves lured into it simply by infection.

3. There is a saying that a hungry man is an angry man; and that an angry man quarrels with his tools. So, we can now say that a hungry man quarrels with his tools. Now, if this hungry man happens to be a student and his tools books, we can then say that a hungry student quarrels with his books! But this situation cannot arise in Nsukka land. Ask anybody who had passed through Nsukka, that person will tell you that Nsukka is the cheapest town of its status;

4. Finally, the people of Nsukka are the most hospitable of all human races.
What then are you waiting for? Grab the offer right now! Don’t allow it pass you by. Do you want to wait for another one year when you are not even sure of that year? I humbly and honestly wish you well.
