Afam Onwuanyi is a legal practitioner and practices in South Africa – a governorship aspirant and who is strongly hoping to succeed Mr. Peter Obi. He had been in politics in Nigeria before his sojourn to South Africa. Despite his tender age, he contested and flagged the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Anambra State House of Assembly in 1992. Although quite young and in his 20’s he was one of the founding members of National Unity Club (NUC) which metamorphosed into the Social Progressive Party (SPP); he then was the then Anambra State Chairman of the said Club and Party respectively. He also enjoyed the company of such political heavy weights like Chief Sam Mbakwe, the former governor of Imo State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, the former governor of Kano State, Chief Alexis Anielo, Rt. Hon Ifeanyichukwu Enemchukwu, the former Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly and Chief Jim Nwobodo, the former governor of Anambra State. He passed through political tutelage from these great men. Afam is a grassroot politician. Afam was a member of the initial team that formed PDP in South Africa and since then remains the Legal Adviser of the party.

He was the first Legal Adviser of Ohaneze in South Africa. He had handled a lot of cases for the less privileged Igbos in South Africa on gratuitous ground. His strength lies in the fact that he enjoys the support of the Youths, religious organizations and several organizations.
He came out not because of the fact of the campaign for the next governor of the State to be of the Anambra North extraction, but because he believes that has the substance and what it takes to pilot the affairs of the State. However, he is a strong proponent that for equity, that power should shift to the Anambra North.

He strongly believes that nothing stops Anambra State from taking the shape of system as obtains in South Africa and some other developed climes. He equally and strongly believes that different sectors should be revitalized and used to create massive employment. He is vying on the platform of PDP; and he is vigorously mobilizing support to actualize his ambition and confident of winning the election if he pick the ticket of the Party. People are already saying that he is an election winning material; and in the list of the guber aspirants in Anambra State, he is the most qualified and credible candidate.
