American technology company Apple has bought Nigerian entrepreneur Chinedu Echeruo's mobile application HopStop.com.

The application gives users access to an online transit guide of 100 metropolitan areas all over the world.

Apple also recently acquired Israeli mapping application in a bid to improve Apple's mapping offering.

According to Bella Naija, Echeruo started developing HopStop after moving to New York in 1995 and struggling to find his way through the city.

HopStop.com was established in 2005 and was named one of the top 100 fastest growing software companies in the US in 2011.

Echeruo left his post as CEO of the company in 2009 to give "someone who was better suited to lead the company" the opportunity to do so.
