ENGULFED
Nos 51

Cold and bleak is the windy night,
Robed in white as they mildly gleam;
Knees as feet as they firmly stand,
Which withstands the winds aimless blow.
Their ground they stand with strengthened faith-
Their ground, myriad grains of fine sand
Drooled upon occassionally
By the untrammeled sea's wild mouth.

In strange tongues their lips calmly chant,
Their voices the wind disperses,
On its directionless wandering...
Beyond the waves of ceasless rush,
Their eyes catch glimpse of hope unseen
Their arms armed with tomes engraved
With that crossed symbol of their cause,
Seeking redemption for a land
Oblivious to sinking in waste.

The wind howling loudly bellows,
Their tongues against their thighs brushes,
Spattering their faces still unfazed;
The waves again slowly retreats.

Of lust debauchery and riches,
Loudspeakers far behind me boom;
These lodestone waves pulls me slowly.
In an indecisive moment,
My eyes in thought are firmly shut:
Gleaming robes or back booming sounds?

On awakening my nose tastes first
The smoked scents of 'unwanted greens',
As I'm encircled by a crowd
Of vibrant youths ensnared in trance-dance,
Whose faces are barely lit by
Dim flashing light of neon hues,
Waters of burning tastes gush down
My naive and arid gullet,
And under all these I do act
Singing songs of speakers booming...

As the white robes still keep up with
Their saintly monotonous act:
Seeking redemption for a land
Oblivious to sinking in waste.

The Storm
No.52

A thick cloud appeared
In communion it gathered
Ready to bequeath its due to mother earth
Rumbling of thunder I heard
The sun disappeared into the thick cloud
Behold,a thick darkness I saw
The cheerful crowd turned sore and fled
Like a melting ice before the sun
All,men and women,young and old
Engaged their legs on a marathon
Off to their abode
Away from the menacing storm
Streets become lonely
Market places deserted
Farmland waited in vain without any to till
The whirlwind blew
The forest trees danced in awe
Heavenly dues like a tsunami descended on earth
Roofs eloped from houses
Dancing to the rhythm of the wind
Flood crept into houses
Displacing man of habitation
Indistinct voices I heard saying
Oh! Our fields oh! Our buildings
For how long?
When shall this nightmare end?
When shall be the dawn of a new day?
I woke up from my deep sleep
Behold,it was a sunny day and I smiled
because it was but a dream.

Season of Toil

In the days of struggle
I have no reasons to giggle
Moon shed tears in the dawn, thinks no marks
Red sky shed light in the dusk leaves no scars
I’m like the moon on progenitor’s palm
After the storm, there comes a calm

After primary comes secondary
Secondary goes, comes tertiary
Tertiary, I’ve always long to be
Be a contrary to Papa’s gods, Papa negates
Negates the entrance fee, admission lost
Lost the offer despite the brilliancy

A bad living jogs the memories of a good decease
Father’s iniquities ring the bell of mother’s demise
The journey of life is a sojourn
Mama’s gone and never to return
Like a sheep without shepherd was I
Off Papa’s gods I back to follow a friend so high

He who pays the piper calls the tune
I sizzle like a sausage in a pan
My flesh was burnt like a kankia sun
I did hard labour
When there’s no place of harbour
I hope, for there’s many a sip
for the twist cup and lip

Sure, it takes two to tango
Bin laden pursues succour in gut of rocks
Egbesu brothers seek realm in serpentine creeks
I roll into his consciousness on a zebra’s congo
I got the prose where the master’s tale is told
And daily I yearn for his love truly unfold

Darkness goeth, light cometh
Rain before seven, fine before eleven
The true friend I receive can’t deceive
I got a tango-mate who sunlit my fate
Atoms of success I am as bone is dog
I shine like the summer, I catch fun

The days of struggle became halcyon days
He’s a friend I praise in several ways
Who is this friend?
The prince of peace, the author of love
The prince of peace who eases the things that pleases
The prince of peace who cease the zeal of conflicts
Who is this fiend?
The prince of peace, the author of love
The author of love who gives his life to others
The author of love who says love one another
Your pains offer my eternal pleasure
You’re the one whom I will always treasure

Stoop to Conquer

A receipt authenticated the deed of marriage.
Just for records, for the millions
Expended in fulfillment of rite of a social expectation.
The signature of her virginity sealed off deal.
The good was delivered to specification.
She stoops to conquer.

Consequentially, regard of her lord and love for her far surpassed that,
Of no more importance than any other house property.
Much to her chagrin and of significant others,
Artemis delayed utility of a brood.
Typically, she earned the appellation witch.
Her womb must have served an ambrosia riffed gossips.
The mother of her lord was at the championing,
But she stoops to conquer.

The May flower faded
From buffets of unfenced blows of her lord.
Torrential tears cut through contorts,
The sheep went to the slaughter, not ones.
But reality of the truth was never served cold;
Her mother was no better,
And plot for a second leaked into her ears.
Yet, she loved and respected him no less; it was her rule of thumb,
Thumbing up all that befell her was hallmark of womanhood.
And she stoops to conquer.

CRUEL FATE

They were so happy

What more could they ask for

Life was good and they were content

He looked like him

And she like her

All was well

All was fine

But then it started like any other

That soon passes away

But alas it was not to be

And gradually he withered away

Till the breath taken from him

A mercy be.

Now clad in black

She kneels beside his mound

And mourns pitifully

With none to console her

Save two braces

On either side

That are innocent

And uncomprehending

JUST VIRTUAL

These obscure lines of mine
Have been wandering long in my mind
Gibberish they may sound
But to me, means alot to explain.

The whole world is a changing place
Everything seems to be moving fast
All slow things are things of the past
I wonder how it would be in a few years

Everyone is going online
Everything seems to be virtual
Everytime I try to move in line
It seems like I am wasting my time
A single step I take on a 3G network towards modern trend
Seems late, because the trend has moved light years ahead

But yet I refuse to relent
On my efforts to make grounds
On the unnavigated seas of the virtual world
In the next few years nothing would be real
Everything would be virtual including food!
I look forward to a time people would eat online!!!

As I sail to pursue my dreams
I wish myself luck in the unknown realms
That I'll find myself in soon.
I wish the same for all those who think like me too.

A DEATH AT SEA

Her tale as sad as it could be,
her journey farther than eyes could see,
for how barren could she be?
After she lost her husband and children at sea.

In search of love, she had met Pete,
her tales of pain and woe, she had fed him,
for she had thought only he had the keys,
the keys to unlock her world of lost dreams.

Unfortunately, her curse remained still,
for in its shadow she was born to be,
and Pete? He was nothing more than a lust machine,
as from dawn to dusk, he wouldn't speak.

Slowly, Ri's dreams sank,
moving irregularly like an unbalanced plank,
or more; like a dead pea plant,
mimicking the great Titanic ship as it sank.

At the edge of the ship, Ri stood in despair,
in tears,
as she made to pull her last option in regret,
the only option taken by the weak- THE FOOLS,
a death at sea, or what else would it be?

UNEMPLOYMENT IN NIGERIA, WHAT'S OUR HOPE

Time was in the history of our great country
Majority craved to be educated
Education was the master key which opened doors of job opportunities
So our people trooped to school
Both males and females
To be part of the educated elite

And so it was then
Even as a corps member
On primary assignment
Companies & government establishments
Came chasing at you
With all sorts of juicy job offers

All you needed to do then
Was sit and analyse
And decide on the best offer to go for
Talk about making a Hobson's choice

Even at that
The uneducated populace
Were not in any way marginalized
Because there were plenty of unskilled jobs
Scattered here and there
For even the least literate
To earn a living from
Thus, everybody shared in the national cake

However as the years passed
The story gradually changed
The educated ones in their thousands
And the uneducated in their tens of thousands began to roam the streets daily
In a hopeless search for a source of livelihood

All because
The bug called unemployment
Had invaded our national life
Eating deep into the fabrics of our society
Leaving ugly scars we now see
Hunger and poverty
Political thuggery and abductions
Arm robbery and vandalism

Giving credence to the cliché
'An idle man is the devil's counterpart'
Youths are desperate for a source of livelihood
At all cost
Even if it means
Taking up arms and engaging in social vices

What then is the hope
Of our dear country- Nigeria
Our hope is in God Almighty
To grant our leaders wisdom
To build lasting structures
That will boost the economy of this great country

A good economy translates to more job opportunities
For our teaming youth population
So that the scars
Created by unemployment in our society
May be healed
And our land restored

I would just like to ask Cuddlemii to please pair me with a designer who is willing to plumb the depths of his Soul to access the darkness within.

I'm working on something that is borderline satanic and I want to work with someone who can visualize the concept without being judgemental.

For what its worth, I am NOT a satanist...But I am trying to take on one of the hot topics from a different angle. An angle that can be difficult for some to visualize, let alone work with....
