PRESIDENT of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Archbishop Adewale Martins are saddened by the twin explosions by Boko Haram in Kano metropolis where no fewer than 53 people were killed and scores injured.

The Catholic cleric through the Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, condemned the blasts in Kano, saying that it was particularly painful that the attack occured during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said: “We are sincerely saddened by the latest development especially coming at a time when the committee set up by the Federal Government to ensure peace in the North has assured the nation that it is on top of the situation. We are tired of speaking on the state of insecurity in the nation.”

Pastor Oritsejafor was particularly traumatized by the news from Biu, Borno State that 16 Christians were handcuffed and burnt to death by members of the Boko Haram sect within the precinct of a church in the ancient city on Sunday, a day before one of the explosions in Kano went off at the Christ Salvation Pentecostal Church at the peak of evening worship.

On behalf of CAN, the President commiserated with the victims of the bomb attack, the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the Kano and Biu tragedies, insisting that these happenings were a further confirmation that the primary targets of the Boko Haram sect are Christians and their churches. He prayed that God should grant unto the families of the departed the grace of comfort at this trying moment.

Pastor Oritsejafor said with the bombing of the Pentecostal Church, the killing of Christian non-indigenes in Kano and the 16 Christians burnt to death in Biu, the Federal Government should consider the handshake to the Islamic militant group as having extended beyond the elbow.

According to him, the Boko Haram sect is becoming more untrustworthy as this latest killings of non-indigenes and Christians in their places of worship have further stirred the sensibilities of the people.

Orisejafor said: With the persistent and continuing attacks on innocent Nigerians who are largely non-indigenes and churches in the northern part of the country for four years on by the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram, the need for an all-round strategy to rein in the Islamic insurgents has become more persuasive now more than ever before.

“We in CAN commend officers and men of the special forces for taking extra-ordinary steps to protect the lives and property of innocent Nigerians. The Police and the Department of State Service, DSS, should do the same and in addition sharpen their investigative skills.

“As it is, we would not be wrong to think that those who buy the extreme ideologies of the Boko Haram sect have infiltrated the ranks of all the security arms of the nation as intelligence sharing and management seem thwarted by agents of the sect within the system.

“If personalities who do not have the mandate of the people speak as though representing them, those mushrooming as champions of the North would also add to inspire the terrorist into action against those who are from other regions and religions.

“In the meantime, we plead with Islamic scholars to begin to restructure the unsymmetrical unity among them which has manifested in the evolution of five denominational ideologies, namely Suni, Shia, Tijania, Izala and Ahmadiya. The real Islam that CAN knows should make true leaders of the faith to rectify the contradictions of arbitrary knowledge of the Qur’an to remind those pushed out of the line to seek the good of all.

http://saharareporters.com/news-page/there-grand-design-plunge-northern-nigeria-deeper-crises-sultan

By Saharareporters, New York
The Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), led by Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, today declared that there was a grand design to plunge Northern Nigeria – and by extension Nigeria – into a deeper crisis.

The Sultan, who is the leader of Nigerian Muslims, was reacting to yesterday’s bombings in the Sabon Gari area of Kano town and Saturday’s violent attacks in Borno State. The Sultan’s reaction was contained in a statement issued in Kaduna.

It stated: “JNI once again under the leadership of His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and the President-General, received with bewilderment the news of the orchestrated multiple bomb blasts which were reported to have occurred yesterday night, at Sabon Gari, Kano, Kano State resulting in collateral damages and many lives lost. We strongly condemn the inhuman and ungodly act in its totality as it is reprehensible, and we equally call for calm and restraint. As it has always been our prayers, whatsoever is the intent/motive of the perpetrators of these contemptible acts, they will never succeed insha'Allah.

“JNI is perplexed that this act of unleashing terror on human lives continues unabated, despite visible number of uncountable security check-points mounted all through Northern Nigeria. More worrisome is the fact that this beastly act of terror comes just 24 hours after unleashing same on fishermen and traders in Kaka and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State, which also claimed many innocent lives and [the loss] of many properties worth millions of naira.”

The JNI further stated: “These repeated acts call for concerted introspection, as they again point to the fact that there is the urgent need for proactive and effective ways of addressing these precarious security upheavals presently being witnessed in the country. JNI is also worried and cannot understand what is really happening. The perpetrators should be fished out and punished in accordance with the laws of the land.

“While we send our condolences to the families of the bereaved, the Government of Borno and Kano States, their Royal Highnesses, Shehu of Borno and the Emir of Kano, we once again call on all concerned as a matter of urgency to nip in the bud future re-occurrences, which we don't pray for. As it is becoming more and more glaring to the right thinking person, there is a grand design to push the entire North into deeper crises and by extension the Nigerian federation.

“Therefore, we call on all Muslims to fervently engage in Du’a (prayer), that will bring an end to these nagging nightmares of insecurity in our great country and may Allah, the Most High, save us from the enemies of peace and development, whosesoever they may be, especially that we are in the most sacred days of Ramadan. Hence all Imams are to include this in their respective Al-Qunut (special prayers). Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”

I feel the activities of Boko Haram will eventually give the South a valid reason to part ways with the north. It is high time we go our separate ways.

I have to quote them because I want all of us to have a balanced understanding of the issues at stake. We cannot hear from CAN which represents the Christians without hearing from the spokesperson of Muslims.

I just wanted us to heal the divide among us in tackling our common problem

The capturing of Boko Haram leader almost every day is likened to CAN condemning attacks on Churches everyday!

When will the government put a stop to BOKO HARAM so as to relieve CAN of cowardly CONDEMNING killings everyday, because I'm tired of always being saliva-wetted!

What can CAN do?
I'm just trying to make rhyme.

It saddens.

When will MAN also start condemning the bombing of mosques ehn?

I think these people doing the attacks are moslems but not born again moslems, just like the kidnappers in the south who bear names like christain madu, they r christains but not born again christians. So no one should blame islam on this.

@ alpha conde: yes those kidnappers in the south are so-called xtians, bt they have never done any kidnapping in the name of christianity. They only target the rich once and the politicians who fast becoming a menace to the nation in general. I‘m not in support of them, bt is there no respectable islamic cleric whose voice is loud enough to be hard by these people? If that‘s the case i think nigerian muslims lack unity and good leadership. We the indigenous northern christians are watching what‘s going on-our brethren been butcherd everyday, churches bombed to ashes and destruction of xtian settlements. Though the holy bible has predicted ul these things, we bliv it‘s getting out of hand as second passes by. As an intellectual norther xtian youth, i want to convince my fellow nairalanders(muslims, xtins and pagans alike) that xtianity can never be eradicated from even the furthest north, if that‘s the case why not allow every nigerian to live a happy life? My biggest question; is northern islam different from yoruba islam?
