The President,National
Association of Nigerian
Students, NANS, said men of
the State Security Service (SSS)
have been after him since he
declared NANS support for the
ongoing ASUU strike.
Comrade Prince Miaphen
disclosed this on Friday, while
addressing journalists in Jos.
According to him, “I will like
the entire Nigerian Students,
who bestowed on me the
mandate of leading them, which
I have never betrayed or
derailed in this struggle, that
my life is under threat by the
men of the State Security
Service (SSS) and if anything
happens to me, the SSS should
be held responsible.
He said, “With today’s event, it
is obvious that men of the State
Security Service (SSS) are after
my life. It further confirms that
the last attack on my resident
was done by the SSS.
Adding that, “Today I saw them
with my naked eyes, I identified
two, among them out of the ten
of them that came and they
were well armed. I think it was
only those two that know me
and was lucky they didn’t see
me, as I managed to escape, so
that I can address the press in
case anything happens to me.
Dailypost gathered that they
came to the occasion venue
organized by the National
Association of Plateau Students,
which was about to commence
at the Plateau State Polytechni,c
Jos, and were asking after the
NANS president.
Miaphen further stated that, “I
want to advise the SSS to leave
Nigerian Students alone and
channel their energy towards
solving the numerous security
issues affecting the Nigerian
nation, other than interfering in
students activities.
“I wish to categorically state
that no amount of intimidation,
harassment or blackmail can
stop us from speaking against
bad policies of government at
all levels, especially at the
educational level”.
It would be recalled that, on the
20th, July, 2013, Dailypost
reported that, the NANS
President in a statement said,
“Yesterday, the 19th of July
2013 at about 1pm to 2pm, a
white Jeep entered my house at
Wamba Road GRA in Jos, with
armed men and carted away
almost all my property worth
hundreds of thousands, after
searching for me tirelessly to no
avail. Fortunately for me, I had
travelled to Ekiti State where
I’m Schooling.
Lamenting further that, “Most
surprising is that why would the
attack on my person come just
two days after I issued a press
statement declaring support for
ASUU’s national leadership for
embarking on a legitimate
strike to better the educational
sector in Nigeria?
The statement further said his
brother had reported the
matter to the Police station in
Tudun wada, Jos North Local
Government Area of Plateau
State.
He listed the items missing to
include, “A 36 inch flat screen
television set, one 16 inch
television set, a complete set of
home-theater, one 56 inch
refrigerator, micro-wave, gas
cooker and other valuables with
an undisclosed sum of money”.
