Daily Manna: The World To Come

Tuesday 06, August 2013

TEXT: MICAH 4:1-7

KEY VERSE: “And he shall judge among many people... and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (Micah 4:3).

The United Nations was set up six years after the Second World War to maintain international peace and security, and take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threat to the peace. The promoters of this world body then went on to engrave this Bible prophecy on the cornerstone of the UN headquarters: “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruninghooks: Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” This is extracted from the prophecies of Micah 4:3 and Isaiah 2:4.

Yet, between the pursuit of peace by a mere human instrumentality and by a divine plan, there exists a wide chasm. While the former has been plagued by imprecision, lack of control over the affairs of man and blindness about the future, the latter possesses prophetic accuracy, a firm grip on the activities of man and a far-sighted look reaching into eternity.

We must therefore rely on the plan of God to bring peace not only into our tormented world, but also into every troubled soul. The sinful soul cannot access the peace predicted in our text without repentance and faith in the atoning work of Christ. Receiving Christ, the Prince of peace as Lord and Saviour is what brings inner peace to the individual who also becomes a member of the Kingdom where “the Lord shall reign over them…forever” (Micah 4:7).

The Scripture enjoins the steadfast believer in Christ to prepare for the day of reward, but vengeance awaits unbelievers and opposers of the truth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Jesus is the Anchor of the soul with the power to save to the uttermost.
