Because facts matter, and unfounded conjecture is really uncouth at this tragic time, I urge everyone to go read for themselves all the statements issued by Monusco and the UN on the attack on COB Semuliki.

SupremeCourt:
R.I.P. to the 15 UN peacekeepers and 5 Congo troops killed this week in D.R.C. as rebels overran their base, 50 troops also wounded.

UN gave excuse that all UN helicopter gunships have limited night combat capability and so did not fly in darkness to save the UN base in a whole four hour night long attack!!!!!!!!!!! Stupiiiid continent of poor equipment. See nonsensical old fashioned rustily rustic armoured battle vehicles that we use in Congo. Biggest shame. D.R.C. has the best and biggest mineral resources mix in the world. Most military generals in this Africa are useless, if those fools look at this thread's photos they will see what their countries' defence budgets can afford to buy and use to save lives of soldiers in our bases.

SA helicopters fly at night but not under the UN. Though i have heard of them doing so in DRC.

Algerian1,do you know anything about Col Said Muhamadi and his colleagues shown here in German army uniform? In WW 2 the pro German Mufti,Amin al Husseini introduced him to Germans and their true aims. Inevitable he joined the Wehrmacht along with thousands of Algerians and Tunisians seen here and fought in the East wherein he was awarded the Iron Cross First Class. After the war he joined the FLN and in 91 was a FIS candidate in the cancelled elections.
Do you have any idea on their numbers?

it's funny but unprofessional, something really needs to be done about these soldiers. I am curious, is there no regulations for mobile phones or cameras in the Armed Forces, I watched a video couple of weeks ago about a soldier videoing himself during operations in sambisa forest.

I have video(s) of US military SOF dancing and fooling around in their AOR. My issue is with them uploading it and thus making it viral. Back in 2014(don't know about now) the rule was very strict concerning electronics

I love how all you guys keep trying to get me into trouble by asking for pics of on-going ops you know I can't share grin grin grin.
I'll say this: the bigger SADC countries should be ashamed that Namibia has sent the largest contingent to Lesotho. shocked shocked shocked

Edit: see both cousins here trying to put me in the dwang wink.

Initially it was a SADC battalion, of which Nam's contribution was 250. Now it's 250 for all of SADC, diluted among mil, police, intelligence etc. And the Nam contribution numbers almost 100.

he is not famous , i m just reading about him , during WW2 many french volunteers, joined the Nazis + The French Vichy Regime , and with them some maghrebis who lived in france during the war .

the most known exemple is the Kommando Deutsch-Arabische Truppen , On January of 1943, was formed in Tunisia the denominated unit "Kommando Deutsch-Arabische Truppen or KODAT". by the middle of February of 1943 the KODAT had two battalions of Arab volunteers of Tunisia , an Algerian battalion and a Moroccan battalion that count a total of 3000 men ; with German cadre. The KODAT was part of the Sonderverband 287 denominated "Deutsch-Arabische Lehr Abteilung" or also called "Deutsch-Arabische Truppen."

and also the north african brigade ( 300 north african men from france ) under order of Henri Lafont ( a french) who was under german gestapo and SS orders to strike french resistance during occupation .

for said mohammedi he was in the french army first then he joined the nazis during WW2 , and was awarded the Iron cross first class and after he was sent in algeria on espionage and sabotage missions but was arreted in 1944 . then he was released from jail in 1952 . and with his experiance in french and german army he was recruted by algerian resistance and did a good work and quickly climb the ladder of command .

More than 100 Paras and Gurkhas fought with poles, bats and heavy machine-gun barrels as a training exercise exploded into mayhem in Kenya.this isn't the first time, stories of brits soldiers fighting among themselves and even with kenyan soldiers.especially at clubs and pubs.in one of this fights among brits,a soldier was killed a fews years back

MORE than 100 Paras and Gurkhas fought with poles, bats and heavy machine-gun barrels as a training exercise exploded into mayhem.

The Royal Gurkha Rifles — motto: Better to die than to be a coward — were playing the role of an enemy and hid the cudgels for an ambush. They lashed out as troops from 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment launched their final assault of the eight-week exercise.

The Paras — motto: Ready for Anything — grabbed spare heavy machine-gun barrels to hit back.

Scores were injured. An insider said: “It was like a scene from a football hooligan film. Soldiers were fighting using rifles and spare general purpose machine gun barrels as clubs.

“A few of the guys were hospitalised, and there aren’t many without a bruise or gash.”

Sources said there had been bad blood between the units since a brawl when they faced each other on the same exercise at Archer’s Post base in Nanyuki, Kenya, two years ago. link https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/uknews/5084079/paras-gurkhas-military-exercise-mass-brawl/

Come on bigger SADC countries have bigger fish to fry in the DRC
Last point first:
Except it's SA, Tanz and tiny Malawi which put their hand up even though it was initially a SADC & IGAD decision to stand up a FIB to forcefully go after non-state armed groups in the DRC. Everyone else was happy to sign the declaration and when crunch time came and they had to pay, they ran for the hills. The bigger states: Angola, Zim, Zambia, Botswana (SADC); Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia (IGAD) were happy to sign on to the muscular talk, even though they had no intention -means? - to put boots on the ground.
It's all their fault FIB is now under UN command and can only support FARDC ops, which means armed groups allied to Kabila can't be touched.

As to your former point:
I completely agree with the rationale of your brass re Lesotho. We did the same thing with our Marines with deployments in DRC and Mozambique. Isn't it perplexing that apart from DRC - which shouldn't be in SADC anyway - it's the small inconsequential countries like Lesotho, Swaziland and Madagascar that always present problems?
