patches689:Yet in the DRC and the CAR South-African soldiers have deployed in Pick-up trucks. The point i was, still am making is apart from Egypt i don't think there's any other African country that can deploy all it's troops engaged in military operations in armour. Light Skin vehicles provide advantages of armour in many areas. In Syria, Somalia and Nigeria we've seen terrorists attack garrisons and outposts to devastating effects. They were able to achieve these because they can attack an FOB from different directions at the same time with heavy firepower and leave the area before air support by own troops can be called in. Compared to armour, light skin vehicles can deploy quicker, are less expensive, can withstand harsh terrain and can provide the same amount of firepower as some armoured vehicles. Anyway, let's agree to disagree. |

Henry240: Yes, SAAF security units on the airbase in Goma and support staff in Sudan use them. All combat troops are equipped with either MRAP's or IFVs. As I have said the standard ORBAT for any South African combat formation is 100% armor. Not a question of opinion, but one of fact. 1 Like |

Henry240: You can only agree to disagree on questions of opinion. Every single combat formation in the SANDF is completely armored. This is a question of fact. Pic related: Sudan 2 Likes

Henry240: Mortars and small arms will be all it takes to stop them. Hence why they are used in border patrol and not a more conventional force. 3 Likes |

Henry240: So that it doesn’t get lost if suddenly dropped or something like that - they are climbing all over ships and man-handling people so it would happen quite frequently. It also makes it harder to disarm him. |
