Based on 2013 costs a new aw139 was approximately 12m USD while an new mi-17 was around 16-18m USD. The American and French medium helicopters are out of price range for most Africa countries.

Unless they bought them purely for aesthetics for VIP transport I don't see how that price difference would outweigh the advantages of an Mi-17..... especially in compbat operation, I dont expect to see the aw139 doing this in Somalia , I would rather they had bought it for the Navy for sea patrol and search and rescue far away from the hot and dusty environments..

Ehn? Are you actually serious? Not one of the objectives of the jewish state was actually achieved and rocket fire into Israel persisted right until the end of the conflict. The Jewish state mostly faced a second rate Hezbollah team and were still forced to back down. Google the 2006 Lebanon war please and see that most experts regard Hezbollah as having won that war.

Last time I checked, South Africa had an assembly plant for that aircraft. 30 were produced for the SAAF. They are rubbish, they just fall from the sk, 2 crashed from the SAAF and 1 for the NAF.

Those are actually Z9s,developed from the French Eurocopter AS 365 Dauphin. The latter costs 15 mn$ and Woo's version is 12 mn$.

The Mi 171 compete more with the AW101 (price: 18 to 25 mUSD) in the specification and role not the AW139
