nemesis8u: But can they swarm an area lock-on and dive bomb like LOCUST from hell?

AskiaHarem: The drones in the pic don't have EO sensors They most probably have passive homing seekers tuned to seek out certain specific frequency bands eg from radars etc also some might have MMW seekers to find and locate targets and engage them irrespective of emitter signals from hostiles. Either way If the drones have AI based inter networking and autonomous decision making capabilities built in them , then all drones will share target localisation and target data amongst themselves and based on pre-programmed threat library, assign targets amongst themselves , sometimes depending on threat perception as per pre fed data, prioritise multiple drones on a single target or even conduct BDA to detect any surviving hostiles and then engage them again and again if required. What u asked if I understood correctly is can drones swarm attack a particular geographical area simultaneously ? If yes Then that is possible from these types of drones also, provided they have EO sensors for man in the loop mode or TERCOM / DSMAC etc sensors for autonomous mode with relevant AI based capabilities. Possibilities r endless can't confine them in few lines of words U can read my post on swarming tech used in Soviet era P-700 / 3K45 Granit / SS-N-19 Shipwreck AShM. It is explained simple enough to give a better understanding of basic swarming if u want. https://www.nairaland.com/3220297/technical-discussions-international-military-equipments/207#58658849 Ok my turn to ask question to u where is the location of hell ? |

kabe1: As far as I know a MRAP is a light tactical vehicle used for such things as patrols in troubled areas. Even the police use them. APCs on the other hand are more hardcore, next thing to the MBTs and their primary role is safe transfer of troops into and out of battles. The shape itself can tell, where MRAPs usually have a more traditional van look while APCs look more like tanks. |

jln115: Are there any APCs that can be considered MRAPs? Example? |

TayserMahri:MRAP(Mine resistant ambush-protected) thus a mrap is just an apc which is protected against mines. The designation MRAP is a relatively new term which was coined by the US in die mid 2000s. South Africa have been building MRAPs since the 60s yet simply called them mine protected armoured personnel carriers(apc) Examples: RG31 Casspir Mamba Buffel Marauder 1 Like |

TayserMahri:just to clarify, about 90 % of modern day APCs are also MRAPs....... With the exception of a few heavy tracked APCs. |

jln115: I see. The theatre of warfare has been constantly changing over the years leading to many changes in quality and role of equipment and the names thereof. E.g frigate vs destroyer confusion was also similar to MRAP vs APC. |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 11:09am On Oct 01, 2019 |
jln115: No. IFVs provide direct fire support, ie. they stick to the battleground, while APCs do not. Im not confusing the two. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 11:12am On Oct 01, 2019 |
TayserMahri:Their is still a clear difference between a frigate and a destroyer though.... Except one is becoming obsolete But a MRAP will always be an APC. 1 Like |

TayserMahri:What about APCs that are armed with 20mm cannons, they also stick to the battlefield. APCs with big guns like a heavy machine guns also stick to the battlefield. I don't quite understand why you think an APC cannot provide support for infantry soldiers. 1 Like |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 11:15am On Oct 01, 2019 |
kabe1:Then they are IFVs not APCs, its about the role. |

jln115:Only small countries buy Frigates alone. Big countries with Oceangoing fleets still build destroyers. USA, Russia, China, Japan , Britain etc. 1 Like |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 11:17am On Oct 01, 2019 |
kabe1:it's about the role of the vehicle....you can have an APC and an IFV based on the same platform but have different roles. 1 Like |

jln115:I agree with this in a way, although they are no longer designated as just MRAPs. They have a new name, like that Nigerian Ezugwu vehicle is not really an MRAP. The vehicle Australia recently bought also can protect against mines, but it is not an MRAP. |

jln115:So you mean if I have a big gun on a vehicle like Proforce MRAP, it is no longer an MRAP? What about the design? |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 11:24am On Oct 01, 2019 |
kabe1:MRAP is just a designation used by some manufacturers and not by others. By definition the Casspir is a MRAP but Denel simply states that its a mine protected APC. |
