First off: Beleiving RT, ever shocked

Second: NATO pilots have standing orders to maintain a minimum distance of 20km from Russian jets over Syria. So i doubt that they would let a Russian get so close.

Conclusion: Meh, its all propaganda at this point (from all parties involved). The bullsh1t is stacked so high in Syria that I am suprised the jets are able to fly over it grin

wrong! the current ROE has changed.... RAF aircrafts are now flying sorties armed with ASRAAM soon most NATO members will follow suit.

the brits has always been a stubborn lots.
i'll love to see how all this plays out.

Russian Su-30SM performed a Visual ID intercept on a U.S. plane over Syria

On Oct. 10, a Russian Su-30SM belonging to the contingent deployed to Latakia, in Syria, had a close encounter with a unspecified U.S. combat plane supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, the Flanker-derivative 4++ Gen aircraft was providing air escort for a package of attack planes in Syria when it approached the American plane, to perform a VID (Visual Identification).

The intercept “was not aimed at scaring off the US aircraft.”

According to RT, the Su-30SM, operating in Aleppo province, “detected radiation emitted from an unidentified aircraft and approached it to identify the bogie [unidentified aircraft in interceptor’s lingo].”

So, the aircraft was at an estimated distance of 2-3 km, when it detected the American plane and closed on it, to visually identify the unknown traffic. After the VID, the Russian plane rejoined the other aircraft it was escorting and continued its mission.

Nothing special then, besides the fact that these close encounters are exploited to collect some intelligence about the counterpart’s weapons systems: radio frequencies, sensors emissions and all the stuff ISR (intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance) platforms can collect from distance.

Su-30SMs have been pretty active with their still largely unknown Bars-R radar, possibly exposing its “signature” to the ESM (Electronic Support Measure) sensors of nearby aircraft: few days ago, a Russian Flanker locked-on a TuAF F-16 for more than 5 minutes!

As already reported, this is not the first time Russian and U.S. aircraft come close to one another in the increasingly crowded airspace over Syria. In a few such incidents, Russian warplanes tailed U.S. Predator drones, at least a couple of times American aircraft reportedly changed their routing to deconflict with Russian aircraft.

Pentagon Worries That Russia Can Now Outshoot U.S. Stealth Jets

American fighter planes are the fastest, most maneuverable jets in the world. But their weapons are becomingly increasingly obsolete—and that has some in the U.S. Air Force spooked.
High flying and fast, the F-22 Raptor stealth jet is by far the most lethal fighter America has ever built. But the Raptor—and indeed all U.S. fighters—have a potential Achilles’ heel, according to a half-dozen current and former Air Force officials. The F-22’s long-range air-to-air missiles might not be able to hit an enemy aircraft, thanks to new enemy radar-jamming techniques.

The issue has come to the fore as tensions continue to rise with Russia and a potential conflict between the great powers is once again a possibility—even if a remote one.

“We—the U.S. [Department of Defense]—haven’t been pursuing appropriate methods to counter EA [electronic attack] for years,” a senior Air Force official with extensive experience on the F-22 told The Daily Beast. “So, while we are stealthy, we will have a hard time working our way through the EA to target [an enemy aircraft such as a Russian-built Sukhoi] Su-35s and our missiles will have a hard time killing them.”The problem is that many potential adversaries, such as the Chinese and the Russians, have developed advanced digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) jammers. These jammers, which effectively memorize an incoming radar signal and repeat it back to the sender, seriously hamper the performance of friendly radars.

Worse, these new jammers essentially blind the small radars found onboard air-to-air missiles like the Raytheon AIM-120 AMRAAM, which is the primary long-range weapon for all U.S. and most allied fighter planes.

ISIS has been sending video messages to alshabaab telling them to join Isis to save themselves and their dwindling numbers. (apparently they have lost so many), alshabaab (led by older members) has replied to ISIS telling them that they are not true Muslims and they only want to cause Islamic upheaval. and then alshabaab arrested 5 youth leaders who were advocating first AS to change allegiance from al-Qaeda . I just love when terrorists fight and contradict themselves. how many versions of jihad exist by now.

Did this strike really miss the target as many people are saying or the Russians never meant to destroy that building.

I have to agree to what you said earlier the Russian air force FLIR or targeting pods don't prove quality images.

from this video it looks like it was a near-miss but i wonder if so why they had not geo-located the building prior as is done with most GPS guided bombs.i believe this is the only precision bomb used by the russians in syria,i have seen the rest are just dumb bombs

russia did develop UOMZ Sapsan E Electro-Optical Targeting System pod ,after opting not to buy french made Thales Damocles Targeting pod (Malaysia bought them for their SU-30MKI) but i have not seen it being used in syria .

they can't send soldiers to fight for africans but are willing to spill their blood for their arab friends

Saudi Arabia confirms arrival of Sudanese troops to Yemen
October 17, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Saudi Arabian government confirmed reports that circulated earlier today about the arrival of Sudanese troops to join the Arab coalition in support of Yemeni president Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi who is seeking to win back cities overran by Houthi rebels last year. After months of military stalemate, the alliance and forces loyal to the Yemeni president started making gains on the battlefield by retaking major cities and are closing in on the capital Sana’a and the strategic town of Ta’iz.

Currently the ground forces in Yemen are consisting mainly of Saudi, Bahraini and United Arab Emirates (UAE) soldiers.

Re Exercise Amani Africa II: a mate is in the liaison team to the Ecowas Brigade planners who've been training to use the Chaka C2 system. Joined them for supper last night and had a long conversation with the Nigerian officers, one of whom I'd previously met on a course in the US. Fantastic bunch of blokes, who like Chaka but think the Nigerian military would never buy it. Asked why, the reply was,"You South Africans would install code in there to spy on us!" grin

No pics unfortunately, and none from the Ex since I'm not involved.

Where is Government PR machine when you need it. A development like this http://tuko.co.ke/55191-700-kenyans-quit-al-shabaab-group-return-kenya-somalia.html shouldnt go qietly, this should be used to make other youths think twice before joining. i.e. GoK could do a documentary and carry anonimous interviews of the returnees to tell potential recruites of the hell that awaits them.
This is a good moment to turn the tide on radicalisation. These youts were radicalised, they whent to Somalia, they saw, and they dint like what they saw, then they came back, they have valuable insight and info, they can even be involved in helping stop radicalisation.

About the pipeline, i've looked into it and saw its not really about insecurity. Insecurity is a factor yes, but I think the main battle here is between 2 oil companies Tullow(which has oilfields in kenya and UG),Total to control stakes in the pipeline.

On the tourism front. We are down but not out. If the security situation stays the same, its only a matter of time before we recover. the situation is still reversable, if you followed the recent tourism expo which had highest number of attendees in the history of the expo .

(Apologies for the derailment guys) these tourist were crazy enough to attend a festival in Lamu which is the closest tourist spot to Somali border, amid travel restrictions and warnings from their countries of travelling anywhere 60miles close to the border........ If we can maintain vigilance, we wil recover in no time
