lol jln hope you didnt mention me just to spite my countryman henry
well seeing that you happily participated in what was mentioned above, i thought I'll use you as an example, and trust me bro this is not a SA vs Nigeria thing, very far from it in fact.

I just thought you will help me, in trying to persuade Henry, that what we did was beneficial to the thread, not negative.

As I said before, its just temporary, untill new photos become available, a lot worse deraling has taken place, without anybody batting an eye.

I'm sure posting a few top 10s and so on, when no new photos are available, is a lot more beneficial to the thread than posting the same old photos over and over!

These ships
usually form the numerical bulk of a the naval fleet as they are relatively cheaper than destroyers and large frigates true only for Blue water navies or countries that does not need to guard and patrol their homeland. For other navies that need to guard their homeland use large number
of Corvettes instead of Frigates and Destroyers. As for example Indonesia, India, Israel, Malayasia and others.
As the NAF policy seems to prefer light combat aircraft so i think the NN is following suit.

Exactly..... Our defence policy is designed to protect the homeland. We have no territorial ambitions.

ahhh see the Aradu standing proud. @Henry240 why do you think we bought only 1 meko 360? How i wish we bought at least FOUR... Who buys only one frigate

Because frigates are expensive wink

But yes, it was a silly decision... I would say 3 would be the absolute minimum:

1 - operational
1 - training/reserve
1 - maintenance/upgrade/refit

Henry240:

We got 1 Meko Frigate, 4 Corvettes and 6 missile boats. That's more than enough deterrent.

You cant deter much when you are quay-side for repairs.

In actualiyt you only have one warship capable of conventional defence (Aradu), which is non-operational and 3 missile boats (the Combatant III's) and only one of which is operational.

So in actuality you only have one vessel that is capable of conventional defense of your shoreline at this point, and even with all 3 Combatants sea worthy it will be near impossible to have more than 2 consistently ready for operations.

Hence why you buy in batches - its a question of operationability, ensuring that you always have at least one ready for action (like you do with your Combattant missile boats).

And dont take these as disparaging remarks - I am deeply concerned that SAN is only acquiring 3 OPV's and 3 IPV's for this very reason.... South Africa has 1 553 000 square kilometres of ocean to patrol with (operational) 1 Frigate, 1 Sub, 1 OPV, 1 IPV and the Drakensberg... meaning that even if we drop all conventional training exercises and have all 4 vessels on patrol they each have to cover 310 600 square kilometers

We currently do not have an operational requirement for conventional defence. When the need arises vessels would be activated.

- Mine Sweepers have only recently completed there re-fits and are back at sea

- Missile boats are currently undergoing a refit at the dockyards, photo already provided.

- 4 vessels are currently in china undergoing refits. Again I provided that evidence last year.

- NNS Aradu is awaiting it's turn for a refit.

- 2 corvettes can be put back to sea.

The aces are all available for the Nigerian navy.

There is nothing disparaging about the remarks.

Heroine Class is the most modern class in service in Africa

O yes, it can kill a Shaldag.... torps dont have to hit targets to kill them, so even if the crew employs evasive maneuvers they will have to be very lucky to avoid the kill zone

at 50 knots the shaldag flies faster than all torpedoes in your inventory. We just circle around while dropping depth charge at your slow-moving sub...

Well first it has to detect the sub

And second, the sub has guided torpedoes which are supercavitating... meaning that they have a significant kill zone.

In WW2 the Japs thought that their super-fast sub hunting corvettes would be impervious to American subs... problem was that when you are hunting a sub you have to sail TOWARDS the sub... and that means a head-on shot and if you set the torps to run deep it makes them very hard to detect with eye-balls.

no offence mate but you just showed how little you know...
.
A supercavitating torpedo is a torpedo using the effect of supercavitation to move at high velocity under water.
.
Not to enhance kill zones.
.
We have 5 shaldag, you have 3 subs... The shaldag cant detect subs fine but thats not its job. Its job is to kill subs.
.
Secondly what is the blast radius of your torpedos kill zone? At 50 knots the shaldag can escape any fvcking zone.
.
Your subs are slow, our shaldag is fast we can hit you, turn around and hit you again and again and again while barely touching the sea surface

You cant drop torpedos at 50knts, if you travling towards the sub they can just plot a intcept course. They dont need a direct hit to damge it.

The depth charges are more a anti mini sub and diver defence in a harbour. Even SA Navy as that.

JESUS!! Are you people this fvking illiterate (no offence)
.
.
hitting a torpedo with another torpedo only happens in hollywood, its not practical and almost impossible... Like hitting a bullet with bullet. Its a fvcking big wide ocean.
.
.

About the depth charge... under-water explosion is more deadly than over-water...
.
.
The explosion and further shock wave will cause pressure imbalance in the whole area... If the wave effect touches the sub it will tear it apart and the sub will implode. The usa forced a soviet submarine to surface in cuba after it has been hiding for months... Guess what they used?
.
.
A depth charge is as powerful as a torpedo if not more.. The only difference is that it is not propelled. A depth charge training round will knock off an damage a subs periscope and its rubber coating. Its not just about the explosion but the aftershock that is deadly
.
.
If well employed depth charge is very deadly and IT IS DROPPED IN PATTERN NOT ONE AT A TIME.

who said any thing about hit they use proximity sensors.

The USSR sub did not fire, it could of but did not.

Sure but you need to be right on top of the target.

Sure but not a 50knts. You cant race around well using them.

Man, shaldag cannot outrun 200knts(320km/h) torpedoes. Reason with your head.

Earlier today the Namibian Police Special Reserve force rescued a bunch of tourists who had been lost for three days without any food or water,The rescue team however gave them water and something to eat and assured them that they were now in safe hands. The tourists had been navigating their way through the Namib desert at the time and strayed from their path(because they didn't pack a GPS system undecided)Although they are safe now and were found with all their limbs attached to their bodies...The group has made it clear that they will never be visiting Namibia ever again.
