Lol..... "Ready with what?". Of course i'm not ready!!

If atleast 20 African countries could boast military sizes such as that of Algeria, yes! However at this time no way!

If African countries had built upon the successes of their militaries in the 80s and sustained that growth, i'll feel a lot more confident as regards national security.

The demilitarisation of African militaries to essentially peacekeeping forces has had a direct effect on the current instability of Africa. There cannot be peace, security and national development if your army only rolls around in APCs armed with 7.62mm rounds.

World war III should start and end in Syria for now.

i just hope our higher military echelon are observing the trends around the world,to start to prepare.we lack everything ,we are living in a mansion with a security guard armed with a club .if we never learned from our fore fathers when outsiders wanted a piece of africa ,"Those who do not learn from their past history are doomed to repeat it.

You are now moving the goal posts.

First you said

"We need better long range weapons because the terrorists are engaging at ranges of up to 2km"

I provide a better solution than you, so now, suddenly:

"No, but terrorists are fighting in towns so you cant use area affect weapons"

What kind of town do you live in that has 2km line of sight at street level? If you are doing FIBUA/MOUT why now do you need 12.5 if 7.62 kills just as well at close range?

Mortars were used extensively in North Kivu, which is a highly populated area, with minimal casualties, by the UN.

So literally everything you have said is largely incorrect.

Yes, I would say about 90% of the fighting in Somalia and Nigeria right now is like AMANI II.

Nobody is shifting any goal post, we are just educating you to correct your big error of a near genocidal battlefield tactics to mass murder innocent civilians on African streets by using indirect fire area effect high explosive mortar shells to counter high speed high mobility Toyota gun trucks of terrorists. Only you think an unguided mortar shell will easily hït a fast driving crazy swerving Toyota vehicle that is NOT sitting down for you like a lame duck.

You do not know what urban COIN warfare in civilian towns and cities looked like.

There are many African streets with 2km long line of sight for terrorists and armies to shõõt at targets in direct fire mode point effect. We have 5km long roads and bridges, we have long streets 3km long traffic jams, we do street protests of people stretching 5km long marching line of protesters.

You CANNOT use area effect mortars in urban area where innocent civilians live, it is mass murder. African national Armies will have to counter terrorists' guns with equal firepower type of army guns, or else good people will lose, and bad people will win.

Not the same, Henry's photo is a medium to big size aeroplane. Yours is likely a helicopter. Those Nigerian boys in green uniforms are like cadet pilots in training.

1) A toyota land cruiser has a max spped of 210KM/H while a 60mm/120mm mortar has a blasst radius of just 40m/60m. a land cruiser on max speeds has neutralize the mortar.
2) unit price of 1 unit of Javelin ATGM is US$246,000,Price of a TOW misssile In FY 2015 is $58,908 for just one missile so multiply that with probably 200 terrorist technicals and see your countries resources burn out.

3) mortars are area effect munitions and as such widely inaccurate. at 10km u cant hit sh|t.

1. The mounted anti-aircraft guns on technicals are not stabilized.

- The vehicle must stop to fire accurately.

- They don't move at high speed.

2. Modern mortar systems with an observation system (laser rangefinders, digital compass, GPS) and a fire directing system are highly accurate. The time between receiving a mission and firing the weapon is much shorter because of digitized fire solutions.

They offer great fire support to ground troops. They can be used from illumination during night fighting to firing smoke bombs to cover the movement of own forces.

Putting anti-aircraft guns on "bakkies" as a response to rebels' ways of fighting. Allowing your foes to describe the nature of fighting is......

The French faced rebels/insurgents equipped with technicals. But the density and composition of the French forces particularly the ground force was such that the technicals weren't a great threat anymore.

I love these vehicles your police chose. Nice choice.

However it is my opinion that big African economies should be able to manufacture vehicles such as these. They are simple builds.

Great choice Kenya.

considering our president did visit ethiopia and saw them building their own armed personnel vehicles,i wondered why he didn't consider even those APC's to be assembled in Kenya. thirty aren't enough later we are going to need more

Would our leaders learn? This is the big question.

They are always appointed into leadership positions looking all smart, but when you look at some of the policies they implement, you start shaking your head in amazement.

African armies need to arm up, armies shaped around peacekeeping do not win wars or ensure national security.

It is also important that we create local arms industries that can fully support our national armies. So that in the event of a war, we can continue to keep our equipment in a workable condition.

It is one of the 2 camouflage introduced a couple years ago. They are going to replace all N.A old woodland camouflage in service with what the CDS is wearing.

Our political elite dont care because most of their investment are abroad ,especially recent democratic countries.only authoritarian countries in africa are busy arming themselves with the most modern weaponry
