that isn't a burraq drone, though it is based on the Chinese Ch3 http://m.smh.com.au/world/pakistan-kills-three-with-burraq-armed-drone-experts-say-is-based-on-chinas-ch3-20150911-gjkjq3.html

If the missile on the drone is what made you think that's a burraq, you should know Nigeria has a robust relationship with the pakis. We've imported lots of bombs and missiles from them.

A burraq isn't a Ch3, though slight similarities exist.

Unfortunately these are normally the last units to be created during an insurgency and the first to be disbanded in peace

RSA used to have a motobike bn and a horse bn... now all we have left is a motobike company (i think) and i think the horses are gone too

We still have horses, but they are mostly just for show.

again I gotta ask - what happened to all the "legacy" (ie: Pre war) equipment in the Nigerian army?

Been ages since i have seen OC (original content) of vickers, scorpions or the like from the NE

the Cobras, which used to be in every pic, seem to have fallen completely out of favor

While I dont think I have sees any pics of EE-9's or ERC 90s deployed at all!

Anyone got any pics?

Most of those armored vehicles/tanks have failed in CTCION ; they lack mobility, armory & protection and fire power e.t.c am not saying they are totally pulled out, they way they use them now is limited. A very good example is the scorpion light tank, you would not want to be inside one when a BHT that is faster and Maneuverable is blazing at you.
The ERC'90 is still very active along side the OKOTA & PANHARD APC's. Has new armored vehicles are coming in, the old fashioned are being pulled out that's the logic.... cool

There isn't just one factor.

The battlespace covers 3 states, Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. The size of the AO in real terms is equal to Scotland and Northern Ireland. What this means is the entire AO isn't adequately covered.

There is a conflict ongoing in the N.E, it's not some tea party. Equipment must have been destroyed, also, i don't know if you know this, but the conflict in the N.E is currently one of the world's worst IED laden. We have to assume that a number of legacy vehicles must have been caught in this "Russian Roulette".

Elections, we only just came out from a keenly contested election in Nigeria. Many APCs were deployed in election duties across the federation.

Redeployment of gear, because of the IED threat, non-mine resistant APCs have been rotated with MRAPs from Brigades across the federation.

Equipment deployed in Nigeria's sensitive middle-belt, where South meets North, and Muslim meet Christian. This means in places like Jos, Kaduna South, Kogi, even Benue state their are armoured vehicles deployed.

Obsolescence, Inoperable, and obsolete. This area doesn't include the Cobra's, Panhard or BTRs (they were only recently refurbished). The EE-9s, some Vickers, some T-55s

The M242 is a 25mm chain driven cannon.

The most advanced 30mm cannon in the world if we want to talk of unique technology is the RMK 30 made by German Rheinmetall. It has no recoil, a 30mm gun ! Aslo fires single shot sniper mode, up to 300 rpm automatic, as gunner selects from three options of fire mode. This is the worlds most advanced. Just to settle the mystery question.

1. Mechanicaly speaking, the GI-30 CAM GUN is the most advanced because it is a completely new generation of gun: externally driven electro-mechanical cannon - a world first

2. It employes a dual feeder - a world first for any auto-cannon

3. It has a "next round selection" option - a world first for any auto-cannon

4. It also has a sniper mode, and fires from a closed breech in this function. The German one fires from an open breech.

Thus, factually speaking, the GI-30 CAM GUN is the most advanced in the world, in its class, because it employs no less than 3 features that no other gun has - one of those features being a break-through in how these guns work.

And FYI, the German gun is from 1997.

"The GI 30 is a unique externally driven electro-mechanical cannon, utilizing a drum-cam to cycle the breech to chamber rounds and extract spent cartridges, thus minimizing gases in the confines of a turret and facilitate for controlled firing rate. DLS designed the GI 30 to fire link-less 30mm x 173 ammunition through a dual feeder – a world-first for this kind of weapon.

As a single-shot weapon, it is also unique for its sniper mode of operation. It is fired from a closed breech position, which offers more accurate fire due to no movement taking place immediately before the round is fired.

Another unique feature is that of ‘next round selection’. Having two feeders, with general ammunition on the right-hand and specialist types in the other feeder, the weapon allows the operator to select a specific round, without first firing off or ejecting an unwanted round.

Ammunition is replenished from the supply inside the turret.
