International Defence Politics 101

-Denel Land Systems bids for a massive deal to supply India with NTW20 20mm anti material rifles. Pic 1.

-Our engineers interact with them during the process of product evaluation. Suddenly Denel is accused of having paid bribes and is blacklisted by India.

-Many years later the ban is lifted after no court can find any evidence of brides being paid. But by now India is no longer looking for anti material rifles as they "have developed their own". Pics 2 and 3.

But its fine.. these things happen in this industry.

now tell me this isn't worse than nigerian videos you've seen. and a lot more worse still goes unreported.

i can tell nobody will make comments about this because it's not an african army.

sometimes the way we rush to make judgments on things. especially when it has to do with africa baffles me.

lemme see what @Tinfool has to say about the british disease now

You can try and find reasons to justify you flawed thinking, but what I wrote is the truth. All one has to do is visit Nigeria and see how the citizens treat each other and then visit Britain and see how they act towards each other and thus my conclusion.

Not the half of it: they placed an order for 1000 units of NTW. Denel supplied 100 for test purposes, won the bid and supplied 300 more before the bribery allegations. Of course Indian engineers went and reverse engineered the thing. Funny thing though, Denel has since got multiple orders for the NTW-20, whilst nobody has bought their cheaper copy, the Vidhwansak.

Also, the whole thing wasn't really about the NTW-20, it was aimed at stopping Denel from getting the far more lucrative contract for the 155mm/52 calibre artillery gun worth about $4-billion back then. The Denel G5-based prototypes were the preferred choices of the Indian Army and without Denel's participation because of the spurious claims on the NTW-20, both the T5 Bhim and the DRDO 155mm were delayed by about a decade. At huge cost to India. Ironic, isn't it?

At the end of the day, we were still very green at this whole international arms export business and the French, Israeli and Russian arms companies & govts – ran rings around Denel and SA govt. Additionally, India had a funny political set-up at the time.
Of course India had a lot to say when Denel pivoted towards Sri Lanka – APCs; Pakistan – Torgos, S-Darter & T-Darter; China – tech for the Harbin, JV with Big-Foot APCs.

Hell, a Pakistani delegation was at Denel Dynamics in January exploring missile options for the latest JF-17 and the Indians complained, citing our IBSA and BRICS partnership.

Apply the same rules in your market for everybody, mu'fucker, and we will gladly show you what we can do!

and how do we treat each other in Nigeria? How do the british treat each other too? Mind giving specifics that are not only typical, but also universal among us two, British and Nigerians?

REVEALED: UK and Jordanian special forces targeting al-Shabab in Somalia

British and Jordanian special forces are secretly working together to target militant groups operating in war-torn Somalia, Middle East Eye can reveal.

Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Hussein told US congressional leaders in the week of 11 January that his kingdom’s forces had turned to Britain in the fight against Islamic State because of a lack of direction from Washington.

"The UK’s SAS is now getting involved in operations with Jordanian special forces," he said, according to a detailed account of the meeting seen by MEE.

“Jordan is looking at al-Shabab because no one was really looking at the issue, and we cannot separate this issue, and the need to look at all the hot spots in the map,” the king added, referring to the Islamist militant group that is based in Somalia and which both IS and al-Qaeda seek to have influence over.

“We have a rapid deployment force that will stand with the British and Kenya and is ready to go over the border [into Somalia].”

Abdullah said that “we started with al-Shabab, as they feed into Libya,” where chaos and conflict have reigned since the Nato-backed 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi.

The Jordanian king also revealed in his Washington meeting that his Special Forces troops were going to be embedded with the SAS in operations in Libya.

The meeting was with a large gathering of senior American politicians including John McCain and Bob Corker, who each attended with their respective Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees.

It took place during a visit in which Abdullah held a slew of high-level meetings, including with Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter, but not with President Barack Obama, who was forced to say he hadn’t snubbed the king and that he didn’t meet him because of “scheduling conflicts”.

http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/weapons/wmc/add_10.htm
http://www.denellandsystems.co.za/products/infantry-weapons (download pdf)

based on these 2 manufacturers data

VIDHWANSAK :
1.it has 3 calibre 12.7 mm, 14.5 mm & 20 mm ( One Minute Change of either of the 3 calibres )

A. 12.7 × 107 mm :
Muzzle Velocity : 845 m/s
Range : 1,800 m

B. 14.5 × 114 mm
Muzzle Velocity : 1,080 m/s
Range : 1,800 m

C: 20 × 82 mm
Muzzle Velocity : 720 m/s
Range : 1,300 m

DENEL NTW-20 :
it has 2 calibres 20 mm , 14.5 mm

A. 14.5 x 114 mm :
Muzzle Velocity : 1000 m/s
Range : 1750 m

B. 20 x 82 mm :
Muzzle Velocity : 720 m/s
Range : 1,300 m

now compare based on data grin

if the rifle other than the looks is based on NTW20 , why DENEL did not contest and claim the IPR for the rifle design ?
Kalashnikov had contested based on IPR and made OFB to make design changes to its assault rifle , what stops denel from doing the same , its been almost 10 years now.
or maybe denel knows the truth.
it is a fact the ntw-20 was the inspiration but enough changes were made to bypass any IPR claims and in-turn better the weapon.
though I feel ntw20 looks better aesthetically of the 2.
and unlike one or two here, I have not fired and evaluated either of the 2 guns
and therefore I cannot give my valuable opinion as to which is the better tongue
