Combat Search And Rescue exercise Launched at Laikipia Air Base Nanyuki

The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Ambassador Raychelle Omamo ‘SC’ on Tuesday 21st June 2016 joined partners from the United States of America and the Republic of Uganda in the launch of a historical training exercise codenamed ‘Ex Linda Rhino in Laikipia Air Base.
Ex Linda Rhino, a Personnel Recovery and Combat Search and Rescue training is an exercise organised by Kenya Air Force in conjunction with US Africa Command (AFRICOM).The exercise is intended to equip the Kenya Defence Forces and by extension militaries from the East African region with skills and experience that are a pre requisite for scenarios that call for personnel recovery or search and rescue in combat zones.
The exercise will run for 10 days. The first week will involve the training phase offered by United States through US AFRICOM and thereafter a two day field exercise by KDF troops observed by allied friendly nations from the region. It is envisioned that at the end of the training troops will gain new tactics and doctrines relevant to the field more so as troops from the East African region are engaged in the restoration of peace and stability in Somalia.
In her speech the Cabinet Secretary for Defence thanked the allied forces for their presence which demonstrates the collective will to cooperate and share experiences in the interests of developing human resource capacities in order to enhance regional security. She in turn appreciated the support the US Government has offered towards the training and exercise.
In conclusion, the Cabinet Secretary said that it is only through co-operation and mutual exchange at regional and international level that the war on terrorism will be won and global peace maintained.
On his part US ambassador Robert Godec said the training represents another ongoing cooperation between the United States and Kenya in a wide range of issues which are aimed ending insecurity and ensuring peace and prosperity. The ambassador also added that the US was proud to support efforts at making Kenya and the region more secure through exercise.
Also present during the occasion were US Ambassador Robert Godec, Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Samuel Thuita, Deputy Air Force Commander Brigadier Francis Ogolla and other senior military officers.

High alert as Shabaab militants destroy Safaricom mobile phone mast in Mandera

Kenyan security officers are on high alert after Al-Shabaab militants on Friday destroyed a communication mast at Damasa in Mandera County.

Lafey police boss Bossita Omukolongo confirmed to Nation.co.ke the destruction of Safaricom communication mast.

Speaking on phone, he said the incident happened at 1am.

"At about 1am explosions were heard from that area only to be told that a communication mast had been destroyed and the only water source also destroyed," he said.

Mr Omukolongo said the communication between his station and the Damasa military camp has been cut off.

"We are using Hormud network that is expensive for communication with those at Damasa for now.

Hormud is a Somalia communication network.

He said the perimeter wall securing the mast was destroyed, as well as water engines and solar panels at the borehole.

Nigerian Air Forces receives 10 units of EC-135 and Dolphin helicopters. The Helicopters were ordered by the NNPC.

"NAF TO DEPLOY EC 135 AND DOLPHIN HELICOPTERS IN
SUPPORT OF OPERATION SHARAN DAJI

The Nigerian Air Force will soon deploy its EC 135 and
Dolphin helicopters in support of the internal security
operation codenamed “OPERATION SHARAN DAJI” in the
northwest. The helicopters are to be used for surveillance
activities to enhance intelligence gathering as part of the
ongoing efforts to checkmate the challenges of armed
robbery, kidnapping and cattle rustling in the northwest
states including the Kaduna-Abuja road. The Chief of the Air
Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar made the disclosure
while receiving the Executive Governor of Kaduna State,
Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, in his office. Air Marshal
Abubakar stated that the helicopter deployment is intended
to provide additional impetus for the operation, noting that
the helicopters recently handed over to the NAF by the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) are
undergoing minor reactivation and would soon be deployed
for the operation."

I think they are, read that Air force statement again. It seems all 10 would be used for surveillance and QRF in the NW.

However, i don't quite understand if the E-135 and Dauphin are part of the helicopters which claims were made, about being upgraded by Paramount group.
