I mean reverse engineering a BTR-80 sort of APC (if possible) may find some market.

good or not, it depends on the battlefield enviroment. But Russian still use BTR-80/90. very low in height. Vulnerable to ambush but they have other device to detect the enemy and aviod ambush.

So whats the reason for russia developing the Boomerang AFV,if its not due to the vulnerabilities of BTR-80 in today conflicts !

Very nice Nigerian Air Force video.

It's a little dated, from June this year.

79 Composite Group is based in Maiduguri. They only temporarily moved assets from Maiduguri when the base came under attack 2 years ago. They've always been base there.

Say what now? shocked

The reason they sit on top is because the Btr has little protection from mines, rpgs, and atgms. From the Afgan experience they found that its more survivable ontop that sitting inside

Fighting prep from Somalia. It doesn't take much to notice the SNA equipment amongst them and the heavy accent of the English speakers.

Somalia general killed by al-Shabab suicide car bomber

A Somali general and at least six of his bodyguards have been killed by a suicide car bomber, police say.
The attacker rammed a car carrying explosives into General Mohamed Jimale Goobale's convoy near the defence ministry headquarters in Mogadishu, Somalia's capital.
Al-Shabab claimed the attack and accused the general of plotting against them.
He had survived several previous assassination attempts.

"Escorted by the legendary Rooivalk combat helicopter, Carte Blanche travels to a recently-captured military camp deep in the tropical forests north of Beni, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. John Webb gains exclusive access to the SANDF’s forward-operating bases in the infamous Triangle of Death in North Kivu province as we visit our soldiers on the frontline in the battle against ADF rebels. We find soldiers who have distinguished themselves both in the field of battle as well as in crucial."

I remember how his troops cried when they lost him. I can still hear them wailing.

MikeCZA:
1 January 2014.
Charismatic leader.
Strange that both him and his boss. The guys who were critical in defeating M23(which was said to be supported by some neighbouring nations) are now gone.

There's a school of thought, with which I agree, that the assassins are to be found not in Kigali, but in Kinshasa. These thugs in high offices of state had 2 motives: to remove the threat that the popularity of Col. Mamadou and Gen. Ambamba represented to their continued looting; and secondly, protect their criminal allies in the FDLR by replacing these 2 good men with tainted replacements with whom MONUSCO and the FIB could not possibly collaborate and support. And the results are there for all to see: with the FARDC left to its own devices, the campaign against the bigger threat which is the FDLR has faltered. The ADF and Mai-Mai/APLCS are rightly getting decimated because the FIB is helping FARDC.

I'm no fan of Kagame and Rwanda's machinations in the region, but they have every reason to be aggrieved when their proxy, M23, is removed from the field and their enemies, FDLR are left alone. Oh well, Museveni is happy as his enemy the ADF, is getting it in the gonads.
The original decision by the 12-member International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) to set up a brigade-strength Neutral Intervention Force (NIF) to remove all 40+ armed non-state belligerents from the DRC was the correct palliative. Pity that money talked and the ineffectual UN had to be approached. With that, the piper became the UNDPKO and the aggressive African initiative of the NIF became the watered down FIB, operating under UN vicissitudes and to the tune of MONUSCO's signed agreements with venal and capricious Kinshasa kleptomaniacs.

To the detriment of the long-suffering Congolese populace.

PICS: Sgt. Madot Dagbinza of the South African-trained 42nd Commando Battalion of the FARDC, murdered with her chef, Col. Mamadou Mustafa Ndala. RIP.

LOL, China does not have war for more than 30 years.WZ551 was designed in1980-90s, after the China-Vietnam border clashes.WZ551 has little battle experience in China, maybe has in other place of the world. BTR-80 is lower in height it was designed under the soviet doctrines" lower is safer".and in Russia or Eastern Europe flat plain or grassland. This could not be too wrong. And easy to embark or disembark .troops can sit on the top.easy to jump up and down.

however a higher vheicle also has it's advantage, especially for the gunner it can see farther ,more internal space etc.

which is better deponds on the user's enviroment.

Dude, give it up already. Flogging inferior Chinese crap at this South African is bad enough. Proposing low-riding APCs so troops can ride on top (surfing IFVs -thanks Patches wink; not sure what is worse: this or train-surfing) deserves nomination for the most pea-brained idea in 2016 for this thread shocked!

P.S. You even got me on the same side as africaken254 tongue

Just incase people start wondering if the SAAF actually has black pilots grin. Display pilots at events like AAD will obviously have the most experience, hence the guys who crossed over from flying Cheetahs (mostly white). But the behind the scenes/everyday pilot numbers fast jet/heli/transport are looking more like this....

So you speak for everyone on here? Even people who might have started following this thread for a week? I put that smiley face as an indication that its a friendly comment. Maybe your comment might have held water if i was a SAAF "follower" posting from Haiti or something. Don't make your bad day ours.
