I concur.

Nigeria should look at local production, for its new standard assault rifle. It wouldn't make sense to buy 170 000+.

Besides, No Person is Replacing the AK's in N.A service, they only got introduced. They've only spent 17 years in N.A service.

lol no. They do have an army and air force.

Used most of the time to suppress protests.

Seems like a waste of limited resources. A police and a SWAT team should do just fine. To think they got an Airforce is all the more bewildering.

I wonder howmany of these igirigi the NA now has, they might be in hundreds cos they r every where ?
The one in army green colour is of the presidential guards brigade.

If we can get 250 units, Each region, i'll be okay. Apart from Ibnsultan's slightly blurry photo, we haven't yet seen a close up shot.

Wouldn't it be mad expensive to train and maintain such a special forces kind of unit.

Police SWAT is sure cheaper than having an un-needed Airforce and Army. Look at Security services of tiny nations, they usually don't have a military (Monaco, Luxembourg, lichtenstein et al).

Maintaining specialised people is difficult.

Their army is small including their air force.

MOPOL. this police unit used to have a reputation back then. that's why they can cope well in conflict zones.

i think it's either their training was scaled down so they won't compete with the army, or their quantity affected the quality.

Felt like I got stabbed when I read the news, we should pardone these guys and send them back to NE this is the least time we should be executing our soldiers

I love the SCAR, it's a really amazing rifle, plus we already use the FN F2000 in Nigeria. As for the FAMAS, it is now outdated. The beryl has a range of 600 meters, that's impressive.
FN F2000 and P90 are great guns with good range and awesome firing rate but we have both I don't know if that's enough but I'd like get them maybe HK G36(first pic) get our snipers in NE Barrett M82 (second pic) the SV-96 is good but this is a bad boy and finally take AKs from our police and give them A Kriss Vector (third pic) and I know Kriss vector is a pistol so if u guess its not good enough the can get MP5 (4th pic)

Good news, I just read it's the M762 version. We are also going to buy up to 5000 of them. Our version would for the more powerful 7.62mm round, unlike the weaker 5.56mm.

5.56 is better.

More controllable and thus more accurate, lighter so you can carry more of it and so on

7.62 is only really suited for battle-rifles like the SCAR-H

Battle-Rifles full a different role to assault rifles.

Modern doctrine is calling for smaller more controllable weapons, hence why the americans are using mainly M4's these days

I don't think so at this point. It all depends on how well the rifle performs. This first batch of 1,000 units would go straight to N.A SF units. The remaining 5,000 additional units would be giving to N.A COIN based units.

Since we specifically asked for the 7.62mm Ammo, I see the army much later replacing the AK's with this rifle. It makes sense get the 7.62mm as we only recently completed installation of two 7.62mm production lines at DICON.

Replace and Ak-47 with an Ak in a new skin?

Doubt it will be an army wide replacement, just a more refined and versatile AK for specialized units.

A gradual replacement is fine by me. I doubt the Nigerian government would approve a wholesale purchase of 170,000 rifles in one fell swoop.

If the gun were to be replaced, you would know, because a factory would be built to do so

If Nigeria is looking for a new gun

But wants something as rugged as the AK

But yet wants more modularity, accuracy, modern components (synthetics and such) as well as upgradability and versitility

There is only one answer

Swede AK5

- G36: barrel melts the rest of the gun with sustained firing, optics are shite, its heavy on maintenance (the germans dont like it and complain bitterly about it on /k/)
-Barret is overkill for a sniper-rifle unless you are going to be doing consistent long range shooting (like in Afghan) or sniping in anti-material role, also that big cartridge makes follow up shots and concealment a problem. I would suggest an alternative, but there is no single weapon to fullfill the "sniper" role. A mix between battle-rifles, bolt actions and anti-material is best.
-SV-96: I dont know anything about it
-Vector: very overated, weapon "wobble" during fire degrades parts heavily. If they can work out the kinks it will be great, but until then its a failed execution of a fantastic concept. MP5 is the way forward, but the UMP-9 is basically a modern MP5 and that would be the better choice IMO
