dragon2: I consider NNS Karaduwa to be the single most valuable asset purchase of the Nigerian military. Not JF-17, MI-35M or NNS Unity. The Karaduwa represents my aspirations for a self-sufficient Nigerian military. It's a beautiful boat, unfortunately photos showing the entire vessel are not yet available. In total we have 2 locally made IPVs in service, one locally made tugboat. When we add the 120(80 delivered) ordered Inshore Patrol Crafts it shows we are getting somewhere. From what i've now understood with this project, it is not actually the Nigerian navy that built it. The Nigerian navy designed it, while Dormanlong Engineering, a local oil& gas and shipbuilding company built the vessel and delivered. Personally, it would be nice for the navy to build much larger, I'll say 58 meters - 62 meters, at-least 2 units. I often look at the KCR-60 from Indonesia, and i say to myself, "we can deliver this". Big ups to the Nigerian navy, i am satisfied with the outcome of the Karaduwa. 2 Likes |

dragon2: Exactly! I'm sure the navy would still classify it by it's former name, however i don't think that's proper. It should be classified as NNS Andoni II (P103). |

Henry240: NNS Karaduwa was built by a local company named Dormanlong engineering ? |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by dragon2(m): 7:59pm On Oct 20, 2016 |
Henry240: If this wasn't built by navy engineers then do you have an idea what happen to the hull of SDB2? Last I knew it was completed. If you recall the hull is about the same size(38m). |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 8:05pm On Oct 20, 2016 |
jakeporeshenko: Yes. Dormanlong engineering was contracted to build NNS Karaduwa. I also suspect they also built NNS Andoni. The navy, Naval Engineering Services Limited (NESL), only designed the vessel. While Dormanlong built it. Dormanlong engineering rents a part of Naval Dockyard Lagos. From there they build oil platforms, components, barges etc for the various oil companies operating in Nigeria. |

dragon2: SDB II is NNS Karaduwa. The same keel Jonathan launched in 2012. It is 39 meters, i usually round it up to 40meters. What I'm saying is, it was contracted to Dormanlong to build. I have a PDF showing the entire build of NNS Karaduwa (SDBII), i haven't shared it because no front view or a clear view showing the enter vessel is currently available. As soon as i can lay my hands on a detailed photo of NNS Karaduwa, I'll post the whole thing in one fell swoop. 1 Like |

Xbee007: Exactly. They should just invest in countermeasures for those Aircrafts. Our Mi24/25p look sophisticated but I doubt if they're also equipped with ECM. Bokoharam operates manpads that can easily be confused by deploying flares. 1 Like |

tdayof: counter measures against RPG ? fly above the engagement range simple. just over 500 meters should do also RPGs uses impact fuse (primary fuse) together with a time fuse (secondary fuse) , if the RPG does not hit a target ie the primary fuse is not activated in say 5 sec (i forgot the exact time period but it should be less than 5 sec) then the warhead gets detonated by the secondary fuse thus rendering it useless , it is a safety feature. also it is not easy to simply point a RPG at an aerial target and and fire , depending on his firing position and immediate surroundings the RPG gunner will risk himself to the backblow which will cause serious injuries . |

Algeria is one of the first buyers of the newest "Kornet-EM" Anti-Tank Guided Missile System on the chassis of an armored car " Tiger-M" The Kornet-EM missile system is an upgraded version of the Kornet anti tank missile system. The new system is designed to penetrate explosive reactive armour from 1,100mm to 1,300mm and offers high immunity against jamming. It can fire three missiles including the 9?133?-2 antitank guided missile, 9?133F?-2 guided missile and 9?133F?-3 guided missile. with 10 km range . The twin Kornet-EM salvo firing unit mounted on the vehicle's platform carries an ammunition load of 16 pieces, including eight ready-to-fire missiles. The automatic launcher is controlled by an automatic and laser beam riding guidance system. It is fitted with high resolution cameras and third generation thermal imaging sight. Each launcher module weighs 75.2kg. The automatic launcher can lay missiles at an azimuth angle of ±180° and elevations between -5° and +45° for ranges between 200m and 15,000m. It engages the targets automatically and can perform salvo firing at two targets simultaneously. The Kornet-EM system can also destroy armoured targets equipped with explosive reactor armour (ERA), by firing two missiles in a single beam. The system can be deployed on various carriers with small loading capacity. 1st pic algerian first delivry Tiger M ; kornet em is not mounted on them yet 2nd pic russian 2 Likes
