There may not have been fire engines available to respond. The country's largest newspaper, The Daily Nation, reported last month that Nairobi County doesn't have a single working fire engine, and that three fire engines were auctioned off in 2009 because the county hadn't paid a $1,000 repair bill.

"It is a disgrace of biblical proportions that the entire Nairobi County does not have a public fire engine in working condition," the paper wrote in an editorial last month. "When (government leaders) were debating their budgets, they did not deem it fit to set aside money either to buy new ones or repair the old ones. But they did set aside money to build mansions for governors, big vehicles for county executives and other needs without a direct benefit to Kenyans."

The paper said the collapse of the fire department means responses to disasters is in the hands of private companies and the military.

This portion could have been about Nigeria.
Simply substitute Lagos for Nairobi and Nigeria for Kenya.

Why is it that people who have been involving themselves in illegal deportation of Ibos are having one form of nemesis or the other? Is it mere coincidence or perhaps God is fighting on their behalf?

That reporting is soo wrong. The APT alone has 5 standby fire engines as is required. So many private and security companies have fire engines near the airport as well.
Mystery is why it spread so fast.
The cause of the fire remain suspect, but

THE PLANE BURNING IS NOT IN KENYA .

The runway is a distance from the old burning block and no plane caught fire.- lol talk of exaggeration.
International planes ready for take off departed without pax while others were diverted to mombasa.

The operations will be carried out from the cargo section of the airport which remains intact.

Meanwhile it's good riddance to the old block as we have about to be completed new terminals -thanks to china.lol

Did you say mystery

When was the last evacuation fire drill carried out at the airport?
How many fire extinguishers are at strategic points in the airport?
Are these fire extingusihers serviced REGULARLY?
When was the last time they were serviced?
How many people know how to use them and can react within seconds of the fire starting?
Etc, etc.

Still stuck with mystery

Ugly duckling: African mentality, we are quick to ascribe blame to anyone but ourselves. How does a capital city not have a working fire engine??
Africa doesn't have the same mentality. We are not the same. If you have observed something from a certain region, be specific and quote that region don't paint the continent with the same brush. Don't generalise ok?
