@feflo,

Thank you for what you are doing here.
Why I asked how many blue batteries is because I'm already using 2 of the batteries with the 650va Bluegate, I connect the 2 battery cables together, red to red, black to black then to the UPS battery cable, but I didn't know of the DC fan.
Now that I've learned from you the proper conversion method, I'm thinking of connecting like 6 or 8 of the blue batteries to the 1500va APC.
What do you think Sir?

Yes, you have really done well and I salute your effort. The 1500va APC is 24vdc, the connection will be slightly different from the 650va you connected earlier. For instance, if you are using 8 batteries, connect 4 the same way you connected the 2 for the 650va, do the same for the other 4. You will left with one positive and one negative for each set, now take the positivone of one, connect to the negative of the other. The remaining ends that is the positive and negative gives you the 24vdc that goes the 1500va UPS.

Unfortunately, our transformer is giving us 190V. I have no idea when that will be repaired. Will such a voltage affect the system?

And are the batteries 200Ah?

Thanks

feflo:

I don't think stabilizer is a necessity if your mains supply is averagely good, the charging system of the inverter is microprocessor controlled.
Any battery I supply is backed by a minimum of 6months guarantee but I majorly deal with these brands: ROY, MERCURY, LEOCH & MHB.

Thanks

I am not certain the inverter will charge at that voltage coupled with the fact that the transformer is faulty. You will need to look for other means of charging your batts. They 12v 200ah each.

@feflo,

That's why I mentioned it.

Shouldn't a 5kva stabiliser take care of that? What matters is delivering 220V to the inverter despite Nepa low current.

So what's the estimated backup time now with 4 batteries of 200Ah?

A 5kva stabilizer on 3.5kva inverter is not suitable at all, the minimum I'll recommend is 10kva. Even at that, you must ensure the stabilizer is original and the coil is made of copper.
Runtime is a difficult question to answer but from experience, you should get at least 8hours if well managed.
Thanks for interest.

Really? Is that so?

Ok thanks for the warning.

Let me see if there is improvement in the voltage over the next one week then we can move forward.

But what is the estimated charge time with a gen? Perhaps i can start with that if the voltage doesn't improve by next week as a 10KVA stabilizer is an avoidable expense.

Thanks

You are the boss bro, I've connected the APC UPS as per your direction and it works. Imagine I have this ups for like 2yrs now but didn't get the connection. I'm super happy bro. Thanks

But here I come with more questions :
1. What type of DC fan will I use, is it 12v or 24v and how will I connect it.

2. How will I be charging the batteries, can the type of smart chargers you mentioned work, if yes I believe it's the 24v I will use.

Thanks.

Check the attached pix, that's the type of DC fan you will use. I will advise you use a 24vdc fan since your UPS is 24vdc. Hope you know the 1500va already has the fan installed

The pix of the charger is also attached. It's a smart 24vdc 50amps charger

24vdc inverter installations

Please i'm considering buying an inverter, one in the range of a 1kva generator ( i better pass my neighbour) but i have the following concerns:-

1) I heard some inverters have a challenge of not lasting long especially when charged with generator.
2) Using generators to charge damages the inverter batteries.

Is there a solution to the charging issue?
How can i possibly charge the inverter battery with generator since it's the most stable and reliable source of power supply that i have?

Questions 1 & 2 are basically thesame, almost all inverter users in Nigeria did not consider the use of inverter when sizing their generator needs. What this means is that our generators are smaller than what an inverter requires to power the charging. If a generator is well sized and its capacity is big enough, there is no way it will not adequately power the charging requirements of the Inverter and even make the inverter charge better than the grid supply.
Another thing is that most generators in Nigeria just have bogus numbers written on them, a generator that has 3500 written on it may not even be up to 1.5kva in actual capacity. Inverter suppliers also contribute to this, they tell customers all sort of nonsense just to sell their product. A potential customer told me that one inverter marketer told him that a 2.5kva generator can power the charging requirements of a 7.5kva inverter.
Using generator to charge cannot damage the batteries as long as the generator is big enough to carter for the charging requirements of the Inverter.
Many Thanks

Hi parley.

1. What is d watt rating of 'I pass my neighbour' generator? As in what max watt does it make available.

2. Using it as DC source, can it charge a 200ah battery thru your ext. battery charger? Thanks

The nameplate rating of "I better pass my neighbor' is between 670w & 950w, the actual output should be about 400w - 600w. My charger is rated 1520w, so you see that two " I better pass my neighbor " càn not power it talk less of one.
