Signals emerging from the Presidency and the Nigerian Police indicate that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the former boss of the Economic and Financial CrimesCommission (EFCC), may soon be demoted and then retired.

Sources at the weekend said the Presidency is worried about his popularity and what to do with him after his Kuru course. The only alternative left, according to our sources, is to retire him and “wish him good luck in his future endeavour.”

The anger against him by a coalition of forces ranging from President Umaru Yar’Adua, Michael Okiro, the police IG and former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida and a band of both serving and retired governors may not even allow him to leave without humiliation.

The scheme, according to our source, is to demote him to the post of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, which was his rank before he was promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police by the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

P.M.News sources informed that the Police Service Commission may have to set up a committee to review all promotions carried out in the force within the last two years.

Neither the office of the IG, nor the commissioner will confirm this but our sources confirmed that his demotion and retirement will be announced as soon as he completes the course in Kuru.

The anger against Ribadu and his EFCC by the powerful, TheNEWS reported in its recent edition, may have to do with his investigation of the ex-governors on graft.

The former governors are said to have united with individuals such as Ibrahim Babangida who felt humiliated by the arrest and detention of his son, Alhaji Mohammed Babangida, about two years ago for money laundering and other corrupt offences.

Lined up against Ribadu are also Chief James Ibori who spent some time in detention while facing a charge of money laundering.

TheNEWS magazine in its current edition reported that Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is also leading the charge against Ribadu because he and his father, Dr. Olusola Saraki, are being investigated.

Source, revealed that the EFCC under Ribadu had investigated both father and son and was set to arrest and put on trial the older Saraki but the agency was dissuaded against it by Obsasnjo who pleaded that the man may be too weak to face the ordeal of a trial.

Even President Yar’Adua is said to harbour his own grudges against Ribadu. The investigation of local government Chairmen in Katsina State when Yar’Adua was governor, our sources said, was believed by him and his aide to be designed to humiliate his government.

Whatever love or admiration Yar’Adua may have had for Ribadu was said to have evaporated when towards the 2007 general elections he was said to have sought Ribadu’s support at the prompting of Obasanjo and Ribadu in a moment of indiscretion told Yar’Adua ‘his group’ had not decided on who to back yet.

Yar’Adua was said to have been angered by what his associates described as “Nuhu’s arrogance.”

Last Thursday when Yar’Adua was on an NTA progamme, he was asked to explain the circumstances surrounding the replacement of Ribadu as chairman of EFCC, and he replied that there is so much propaganda around the Ribadu case.

He expressed his dislike for Ribadu in a comment: “I am more of a believer in the system than in the individual,” he stated. When the questioner pursued further that it is the individual who makes the system, Yar’Adua simply moved on to other issues.

This may be full of rumours but I aslo think there is likely to be more truth in the story.

Yar A'dull  is not a straight guy. He is the near copy of his boss OBJ

This guy send Ribadu through the IGP and AGF by false pretence to a dodgy school in KURU when even a daft Nigerian knows that they are removing him.

Even Yar A'dull spokesman Segun Adeniyi came on the TV to say that RIbadu is only going to school.

Now we knows that it was not the truth, Yar A'dull has now appoint WAZIRI to replace RIBADU. What his AGF may have not told Yar A'dull that he cannot do that until he removed Ribadu under any of the provision of the constitution.

Sending him to school and appointing someone at the same time is unconstitutional
Mr President.

If he has done something wrong the President should say so but we Nigerians knows that they they just wanted to get rid of him because of the 'untouchables' like IBORI, IBB  etc

Watch this man called Yar A'dull is on the tarmac for runway to failure.

RIBADU is not perfect we all know but majority of Nigerians knows that he means well and doing a great job at the risk of his life.

If we can all recall that it was during his tenure that the saying ' the fear of EFCC is the begining of wisdom' and that they mean Ribadu in particular becasue he has trained his guys to be fearless.

We are all about to see business as usual resume in full force

As far as I am concerned Yar a'dull is being given false comfort by people like IGP and AGF to paint  RIbadu in a bad light.

Governors, senator and a former IGP has gone down because of RIBADU. That has not happen before in the history of Nigeria before RIBADU's EFCC.

Selective justice or not, let's those Alams and balogun comes to say otherwise.

whatever Yar A'dull and his cronies decided to do we should not be suprised but in the end they will all fail.

Why did it take him this long to lift a finger against them if he really wanted to I'm kind of curious, after all he previously had all the support he needed.

The guy should act fast and resign now as AIG and beat them to their shameless, pull-him-down game. He could still get a job with UNO or any other international body.

ribadu made mark in nigeria and he should be contented with that.it is not easy to fight against the alliance of the corrupts' in nigeria without being hurt.confronting people like adenuga ,ibb ,ibori and abacha, other big thieves was really 'unnigerian'.he should not bother himself about yaradua and his agf. time changes history
