Kalu's House Lockup - The Truth. He Owes Tax to Land Owners. by OPCNAIRALAND: 2:38am On Aug 14, 2013
A former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has accused the Lagos State Government of sealing off his property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi.Close aides of the ex-governor said the development was as a result of the criticism of Fashola by Kalu over the 'deportation' of 72 residents of Lagos, who are of South-East origin.Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State had raised the alarm about two weeks ago on the deportation of the people. He said the people were dumped under the bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, in the early hours of the day.But the Lagos State Government denied the allegation, saying it relocated 45 destitute persons from the state back to their state of origin.

Kalu had told Fashola to apologise to the Igbo for the "deportation" and threatened to sue him if he failed to do so.However, the former governor's Special Adviser, Media, Emeka Obasi, said Lagos reacted to Kalu's comment by sealing off his property. He said, "It was done as a revenge for the criticism by Kalu, who is the Coordinator of Njiko Igbo, a group fighting the cause of the South-East."Obasi said the property had been there for many years and that sealing it off after just two weeks of Kalu's criticism of Fashola was an indication that there was more to it.Obasi pointed out that Kalu was not the only Igbo to have suffered such a fate in Lagos "after the wicked and ungodly act of deporting legitimate residents of Lagos State."He added, "Why is it that it is now that the property is being sealed off barely two weeks after my boss disagreed with Fashola's action?"We maintain our stand and this will not distract us from fighting for the people. The action of the Lagos State Government remains unconstitutional because every citizen of Nigeria has a right to live in any part of the country."Fashola should remember that the Igbo community constitutes about 35 per cent of registered voters in Lagos State and they should be treated with respect.

"However, a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, said, "The fact is that Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu's property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi was distrained pursuant to Section 40 of the Revenue Administration Law of Lagos State for failure to pay the statutory annual land use charge despite three separate notices delivered to the said property" ."As a government driven by law and process, the Lagos State Government will ordinarily expect all law abiding residents to discharge their responsibilities to the state."If, in spite of failing to do so, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu wants to give ethnic colouration to a routine performance of its duties by an agency of the government, he is free to do so."However, when the issue was brought to the attention of the governor on Tuesday evening, he directed the agency to unseal the property and that an additional 14-day grace period be given to Kalu to pay the said charge."

Why do Ibos throw their percentages around?
In this article they are reminding Fashola they are 35% of the voting population. So what does that mean, any Ibo can help decode this threat?

“If, in spite of failing to do so, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu wants to give ethnic colouration to a routine performance of its duties by an agency of the state government, which in this case is the Land Use Charge Office, under the Ministry of Finance, he is welcome to do so.

“However it should be noted that when the issue was brought to the attention of the Governor, Tuesday evening, he directed the agency to unseal the property and that an additional 14 days grace period be given to Mr. Kalu to pay the said charge.”

It should be emphasised that notices like these are served on defaulting property owners on a regular basis who either comply or contact the Agency to raise any objections they might have to such notice. Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, like every other citizen, must fulfil his obligation to the State

I'm telling you, Fashola is too nice to these ingrates..

They say they are big boys, but they are actually onigbese 419 tax evaders... grin grin

Kalu, see ya life. You for don shut your mouth, but you pulled the usual ibo victim card, emotional blackmail and open ya own yansh for market place... grin

What it means is that if Care is not taken, they may be left with no other option than to take their 35% vote elsewhere. Go figure!

Thats what i dont get. grin

Where is the elsewhere, there is no elsewhere! They are heavily invested in Lagos and so they are immobile. They did not project effectively for market flexibility so they are stuck. They are a sitting target and a political pawn. Whichever way they vote Yorubaman will be governor, deputy governor, attorney general, in fact i doubt Fashola's successor will have Ibos as commissioner in his/her regime.

Their 35% is politically inexchangeable, they have zero negotiating power in Lagos.

What's there to twist? That the man is or not a lawbreaker and a dead beat?

The thing is, it's ok when other Nigerians are held responsible for their actions, but it's always tribalsim and other dumb nonsense when it comes to ibo people.

This is what most of us have been saying on this forum, APC is a fraud. There is nothing progressive about these children of anger.

these shameless hypocrites were making noise when Govs Amaechi and Oshiomole's aircraft were grounded.

i was expecting progressive Tinubu to have patronised LASUTH for his "phantom knee operation".

I also learnt that fascist fashola sent his father abroad for treatment when he sacked Lagos doctors.

like pregnancy, the activities of hypocrites can't stay hidden for long.

Mr Abati,

There is no correlation here. The property was sealed after three separate notices were delivered to the said property for payment of statutory tax which was ignored. This APC insomnia is a big problem for you. You need help ASAP .

I suspect overzealous aides of fashola carried out the act and fashola had to waive it and give a grace period to avoid politicizing the issue.
But the fact remains that ouk owed land use charge for 3 years.

youre not serious o, in your mind now anybody who isnt yoruba is automatically an igbo man ? Sorry for you.. Openly on another thread people like you were hailing Fashola for sealing the premises of an igbo scum now your deluded self tries to act all righteous by saying OUK hasnt paid taxes on the building, why didnt LASG notice the tax infraction long before the man's comments ?
Re: Kalu's House Lockup - The Truth. He Owes Tax to Land Owners. by Yorubest: 7:39am On Aug 14, 2013
If they are up to 35%, there should at least be an Igbo LGA chairperson by now

OUK is not only a failure, as his performance as a governor as showed, he is also clueless, as his recent actionless statements have proven, as well as lawless, as his evasion of taxes to the State of Lagos has revealed

So tell me how Igbo people's taxes add up to providing infrastructure in the state when they don't even pay it?

We know all too well that the figures of their population they've been brandishing are all false as it hasn't influenced the state culturally, socially or politically

We also know that their phantom contribution to the GDP is all but lies as Yoruba and foreign dominated industries and companies contribute to over 90% of the state's GDP

Regardless, he owes property tax. He is indebted to LASG and needs to write check asap, 14 days will be here soon. I hear other igbo people have had their houses locked up too. I see another family reunion exercise in your future soon. This time for the likes of Kalu.

Orji Kalu should use the 14 days ultimatum graciously to pay his tax which he has been duly notified on three occasions.Every property owner in Lagos State pay their Land use charge or their property is sealed,i have a similar property close to my house...He should not bring ethnicity to defend his irresponsibility...He should learn how to set good example for the young generation of Igbo`s who are property owners to play by the rules and be law abiding rather than bringing in ethnic sentiment to curry cheap favor from Nigerians and particularly the Igbo`s. As a Nigerian Youth we know those who are our enemies be it Ibgo,Hausa,Yoruba,Ijaw or Middle Belt...WE SAY NO TO ETHNIC AND TRIBAL SENTIMENT. The time of sealing the property is inconsequential as claimed by Mr. Orji`s aide, he should understand that he who comes to equity must come with clean hand.

This situation cracks me up actually. We all know it's about power flexing and show of might but what makes it more fun is the ingenious ability to deal with an adversary without breaking any constitutional provision. Question in this case now is who really owns lagos, who has the koboko, and who's at the receiving end of the whipping?
