THE National Union of Pharmacists, Medical Scientists and Professionals Allied to Medicine (NUAHP), on Thursday, declared an indefinite strike across all tertiary health facilities in the nation. The union, in a statement entitled; “Declaration of Indefinite Strike,” made available to journalists on Thursday, said it took the decision because the Federal Ministry of Health had failed to meet its demands. Signed by the national president of the union, Comrade Felix Faniran; General Secretary, O. C. Ogbonna; and other executive members, the statement noted that NUAHP had given the Federal Government an ultimatum which it later extended by 15 days when the Ministry of Health raised some complaints about it. The ultimatum, however, expired on Thursday with the Federal Government yet to move to address the issues at stake. “Therefore, the union has no alternative than to declare an indefinite strike. The national secretariat, therefore, directs all units, states and geopolitical zones of NUAHP to proceed on industrial action as from 8.00 a.m. Of 16 August, 2013,” it noted. http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/19278-health-workers-begin-indefinite-strike.html |
