Soludo, Five others Disqualified For Anambra Governorship Race

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has disqualified the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and five other aspirants on the party’s platform for the November 16th Anambra state governorship elections.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the APGA gubernatorial screening panel, Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi, its Secretary, Barrister Ifeanyi Mbaeri and a member, Chief Onwuka Ukwa at the end of the panel’s sitting, the six aspirants’ failed to scale through the Party’s test.

Sources at the panel sitting said some of the reasons given for not clearing the aspirants ranged from non-presentation of voters’ card, lack of evidence of financial strength to execute the campaign, incomplete certificate and their inability to submit tax clearance.

The six aspirants that failed the screening include, Emmanuel Nweke, Ogbuefi Tony Nnaechetta, Chinedu Francis Idigo, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, Immediate past Secretary to Anambra state Government Oseloka Obaze and Professor Charles Soludo.

The panel also informed that seven aspirants were successful and they are Hon. Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Nwogbo, Paul Odenigbo, Hon. Uche Lillian Ekwunife, Chief Willie Obiano, John Nwosu, John Okechukwu Emeka and Nwachi Patrick Obianwu.

^^^You think!?

Part our problem in Alaigbo is that we like to play too much politics and don't tend to look at the bigger picture: the greater good of the entire populace!

There was a time when there was a minimum standard for leadership in Igboland, and that was when the likes of Azikiwe, M.I Okpara and Akanu Ibiam bestrode the political landscape of the old Eastern Region. Fast forward a generation or two, and what are we faced with?: we're confronted with all sorts of political chicanery and subterfuge; neophytes and upstarts filling the political space; and persons of questionable character waving their equally questionable billions in our faces......that being the only claim they have to the office they seek.

If Anambrans stand by and allow this world class technocrat to be 'tricked' out of the APGA primaries (at the very least), then they shouldn't be surprised when they're eventually faced with mediocre visionless leadership and empty slogans of laying of solid foundations for the next incoming leadership......i can assure you that by then it would be too late, and other regions would have left us far behind!

It is not just the problem of Ndigbo not to look at the bigger picture andthe greater good of the entire populace,it is a Nigerian problem if not Africa...Well,Sulodo still has a chance,he can join the PDM party of Atiku`s associates grin

l feel that Soludo is ridiculing himself by going into mainstream politics, particularly at this time when it is controlled by crooks.

Same world class technocrat was a candidate in the last election, with the backing of the former president he came a distant third. Academic excellence does not make one a good political administrator. All that is needed is one who is intelligent enough to govern, has the political will, and his disposition to the welfare of the people and the management of the resources to achieve that. People like that are many in numbers, its myopic to place the hopes and fate of Anambrarians on just one man.

It seems APGA decided to disqualify its frontline candidates, could it be Obi is selling out APGA finally to the PDP?

Is that why obi said he is retiring from active politics immediately after his term. APGA seems dead and is presently lying in the morgue, i doubt if it will resurrect.

asha 80: why?i also find it funny that oseloka was also disqualified.something is not right somewhere.

From the grapevine,Gov Obi had marshalled a fail-proof plan to instal his successor. If plan A does not work,he will switch to Plan B which is the just retired Executive Director of Fidelity Bank(a bank Peter Obi has controlling shares in)...Willy Obiano....
