NICE!!!
Re: Pictures of first international flight from Enugu. by Nightshift(m): 10:18pm On Aug 24, 2013
I was expecting Okanga Nike to line up dozens of masquerades outside the airport welcoming the plane and passengers. Shidodo and his group could also have been there entertaining those who like dancing to Enugu's famous Egwu Ogene.

Those beautiful Coal city folks! It is indeed a new dawn in Enugu, thanks to a tough political decision taken by Mr president.

Wow Ethiopian airline is now local airline cos it landed in Enugu. For your info Ethiopian airline only use Boeing dream liner and they just landed and departed so chose another line.

One ethopian airline plane lands and look at how crowded and chocked up that cue is. What happens when planes lands at minutes interval?
Before now all una mantra is that the airport/airline wont have passengers, now it has turned to overcrowded. The same crowd is in every Nigerian airport yet BA, AF, KLM and others are landing and taking off.

Symphony007: your comment is very disgracefull and proves that indeed you are a true nigerian. "we all know nothing works in nigeria, so we celebrate the little we see". That is the legacy you want to hand down to your children. A nation of mediocres. It does'nt shame you to admit that a bus station in a country that does'nt have half your money is better than the two foremost airports. Well, you all can keep fooling yourselves. Let's wait and see which foreign carrier will land their airbus 360 or boeing dream liner in that trashy bus station of an airport. if they can land in Lagos I don't see why the cant land in Enugu. Yes am a typical Nigerian surcharged since child hood by wicked politicians that promise and fail. Why can't I rejoiCe when one of them promise and fulfil. Enugu airport will decongest Lagos airport and Lagos/ sw that is why am happy.

listen to yourself. "if they can land in lagos, they can land in enugu" it's like saying "if they can land in new york, they can land in idaho", don't u understand economics? Yeah, you are a typical nigerian since childhood who have grown customed to promise and fail politicians so your expectators and hopes are now as low as low gets, therefore anything that comes is great. You don't belive you deserve better. Symptoms of a failed society.

my dear, what sort of lie is this now? Is it as lie or you don't know the meaning of dreamliner? Out of ethopian airline 60 fleets airplanes only 2 are dreamliners and the third will be deliverered this year, and non of them fly on the african continent, they are mainly meant for the japanese routh. Better watch your mouth.

The same crowds are in other airport were planes fly and take off within minutes of each other, what do you expect? This one, one plane lands and passanger squeeze in cue like sadines. This is an international airport? What happens when three flights land? The roof will be used as a make shift terminal? Ha..ha..ha hopeless.

One question for you. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I need your ansa
you see they same line in nnamdi azikiwe and MMA where flights take off and land within minutes of each other. Here one plane lands and the whole terminal is blocked. How does this "international airport" cope when planes that landing minutes of each other? Lines will extent into the runway?

As from the 2nd quarter of 2015, the new international terminal will handle int'l flights to and from Enugu. The int'l terminal will have the capacity to handle 2 million passengers per year (i.e. around 800 passengers per hour).

so why is this trash now called an international airport, if an international terminal is still years away in construction? Did the government lie or where they too stupid to tell the difference?

So na Ethiopia na him the 'international' flight come from....una for just say 'International flight from Ethiopia landed in Enugu' and I wouldn't have border reading...

I have been celebrating since far, thinking that the flight came across the sea from some destinations either in Europe or North America...seeing these pictures now have deflected all my joyousness, thanks to the OP..

And if that is an international airport, I hate to see the picture of a domestic or local airport.

..yes! I said it! it is now your turn to abuse and curse me out all you want...go! take your best shot!

I just hope they upgraded the airport facilities in order for them to be able to operate at night and also enable instrument landing approach!!

If they haven't done that, then this airport is just a big disgrace!!

lets hope there will be more flights - this reads like a paid PR stunt

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/first-international-flight-lands-in-enugu-2/

It was historic.

As soon as the crowd that thronged the Akanu Ibiam International Airport to witness the arrival of the first passenger international flight sighted the Ethiopian Airline, they went frenzy in jubilation.

The plane was sighted at about 12.10 am and pulled up at the tarmac six minutes later.

Carrying 20 passengers on board, the Boeing 737 aircraft took off from Addis Ababa. 58 passengers boarded the plane back to its destination.

The crew was personally led by the deputy chief executive of Ethiopian Airlines, Esayas Haylu.

On hand to receive the aircraft include the Secretary to the Federal government, Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of aviation, Stella Oduah; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Minister for power, Chinedu Nebo.

Also present were all the South East governors excepting that of Imo state.

Present also were the national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh and Comfort Obi of the Police Service Commission.

Deputy CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Esayas Haylu expressed happiness that his Airlines was the first to commence international flights to Enugu.

Esayas who is also the chief commercial officer of the airlines greeted the crowd with the traditional Igbo greeting of “Igbo Kwenu” on disembarkment.

He praised the “spirit of Igbo people”, saying repeatedly, “I love you, I love you”.

Esayas promised that the Ethiopian Airlines would ensure that it abides by the aviation rules and regulations of Nigeria as long as they fly the Enugu route which is their 76th destination world wide.

By Christopher Isiguzo in Enugu and Chinedu Eze in Lagos

History will be made today as the first international commercial passenger flight will berth at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

President Goodluck Jonathan had recently formally opened the remodeled airport and assured the people of the south-east zone that international flights would commence from Enugu.

Today’s historic flight will be made to Enugu by Ethiopian Airlines which will now be the first international carrier to operate from the Enugu Airport. It will also airlift its first passengers from the Coal City to Addis Ababa today.

Though, a prominent businessman from Anambra State, Prince Arthur Eze had last week Tuesday equally made a historic landing at the airport all the way from Senegal with his private jet, residents of Enugu and other adjourning states are in high spirit to welcome the passenger flight.

Already, the Enugu State Government has assured that adequate preparations have been made to ensure that the event described as a significant milestone in the economic life of the state and the entire south east, was successfully conducted.

Governor Sullivan Chime and his colleagues from the other states in the region as well as many important dignitaries from within and outside the country will be on hand to receive the epoch flight. As expected, an atmosphere of excitement and jubilation now pervades Enugu and other states in the south east region as residents eagerly await the arrival of the maiden international flight.

The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah who worked tirelessly to ensure that the clamour of the people of the zone was realised noted that businessmen and other travellers from Enugu, Aba, Abakaliki, Onitsha, Owerri, Umuahia and as far as Asaba and Benin will be saved the stress of travelling to Lagos or Abuja to catch international flight.

On the viability of the Enugu Airport, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, George Uriesi said, “I know a lot of passengers from Nigeria are from the South East region. They will now have the opportunity to travel directly from Enugu to wherever and back to Enugu without having to go somewhere else. Some airlines have indicated interest. Based on their numbers they know there is business here.”

ThisDay checks however showed that though the airport had been formally opened, there are still some major facilities that are lacking at the airport.

The airport at the moment, according to sources has no night landing facility which would ultimately affect airlines that may want to operate night flights.

airport has no night landing facilities

it seems the first flight was not a true flight, but a demo engaging ethiopian airlines - anyway, lets wait and see

This is a well renovated local airport but using it as an international airport too is just repulsive.

Enugu airport does not operate at night and they don't have instrument landing approach facilities!...

Please how is this an international airport??
