There is the theory and practice and there is track record.

The Freelander is a lemon just don’t touch it, the Suzuki drives horribly you will not get any dynamic feedback as you drive and forget about ripping anybody at the traffic lights.

The Ford SUV’s have pedigree the most popular SUV in the world is not a Toyota it’s actually a Ford Explorer, bought one in 2001 and sold it to my friend to date he’s running it trouble free in Lagos.

For looks the Escape kills and the power beats the others hand down. Finally most of the armed robbers in Nigeria will be looking for the Japs and Germans while you peaceably go your way in style.

Nuff said!!!

@ebidor

technically, there is no basis for comparison between the nissan altima and the nissan maxima (whatever the year!) They aint in the same class dude! Its like comparing a Toyota Camry against a Toyota Avalon, or Mercedes C-Class against the E-Class, or the BMW 3 sseries against the 5-series, and this is especially for nkc and fotodaddy wink or comparing the VW Golf(at least the 1.6L GTi o!!!) with the VW Passat. They just dont gel!

That said, from your naija point of view which i think we should begin to re-align you probably are thinking along the lines of fuel evonomy, power, maintainance costs, etc. Well, first thing, know that fuel economy and power enjoy and inverse relationship; as economy increases, power decreases; the puny toyota prius is a classic example. So if you want fuel economy, go for the altima. if you want power and speed and levels, go for the maxima. Also note that the maxima is more expensive to maintain that the altima.
Note I have only given my opinions based on the models you listed o - altima and maxima; no other car was considered in this analysis
