omonnakoda: Always a shame when people in leadership and sensitive positions talk recklessly.
Many of us in the South remain suspicious of the census figures but there is a sensible way and a foolish way to do thins.Odimegi has chosen the foolish way

Its even a bigger shame, infact, it is a CALAMITY when people in sensitive and leadership positions CANT speak the TRUTH!

Read what the man has said, as quoted above and tell me if HE IS LYING!

If he is not lying then, l must ask you to DEFINE WHAT RECKLESS TALK is?

So, SPEAK TRUTH => Reckless Talk = Sack!
LYING/DECEIT => Careful Talk = Promotion!!

That FALSE POPULATION was used to create Local Government Areas, at the average of 300,000 per LGA.
Ok I agree with your figure.. Then kano was under counted in the census cos we have 44 local governments...mean the 300000 * 44 =13200000 people instead NPC gave us less than 10mil, too bad...
Kano/ North is not a desert as u keep calling it...northerners are many in truth due to polygamy...islam permits marriage of up to 4 wives....if each wife gives birth to 2(wich is very small)...... An average hausa man has more than 8 children... For example Abacha had 10, Ado bayero (emir of kano) has 72 children, Aminu Dantata has 17, ...Pls if u hav frnds and associates of northern origin nd of ur economic class ask them how many brothers and sisters do they have and how many children do they have...Southerners should please try and consider polygamy when looking at the census figures

No religion creates more women than 50% of the population. Please remember the numerous Hausa men that can find wife.
Many Nairalanders can write the Hausa language. Things like population are measurable, and predictable. In 1970s, after a very dubious Census, Chief Awolowo observed that women in the South of Nigeria have higher fecundity than women in Northern Nigeria. That fact hasn't changed.

There is a time to be emotional and a time for rationality.
I have no idea whether or not he is lying because he did not share any evidence with me.Maybe you know something the rest of us do not. Many of us in the south do not believe that there are more people in the North and so any census that does not match that will be "Bogus". The fact is odewigi was at the top of the organization and if he spotted fraud NO ONE was in a better position to do something about it.That something in my opinion, should not be making noise in the market. There is a Census law and other mechanism which he could use.As it is he has only scored an own goal and made the job harder for any correction if indeed there was fraud.

Why are people blaming Festus odimegwu, why is kano state governor uneasy while other governors like fashola, Amaechi Rochas not caring about the allegations of the NPC chairman. The NPC chairman sneezes and out of 36 state governors only 1 governor caught cold. This means there is something the governor is hiding that majority of people including Jonathan does not know. And until nigerians stand up and make sure the right thing is done the 2016 census will be a waste of money and time. What stopped Jonathan insisting that this census must not be rigged at any cost since arigged census only favor thieves

Is being truthfully out-spoken an intolerable, bitter thing in Nigeria?

Read what Tonnie Iredia, former Director General of NTA, wrote about Nigeria's census, population figures and Festus Odumegwu about a year ago:

"At independence in 1960, we had 35million people. The 2006 census took the figure to 140 million - an incredible increase of over 100 million in less than 50 years.

Now that the indomitable Eze, Festus Odimegwu, a diligent manager of business is in charge of the subject, things may change."

Methinks, a public officer berating past anomalies and promising to remedy them did not commit a sin - unless in Nigeria.

3. Its because of 1 & 2 that no population can grow more than 3% a year, even if some people marry many wives. The number of women in any population is not as limitless as oppressors of women think.

[quote author=Sincere 9gerian]Nonsense! The President of Nigeria is the president of every part of Nigeria, including the north and Kano State.

When a critical stake holder such as the governor of Kano State, or any other governor raises concerns about the attitude of federal official, it is the responsibility of the president of Nigeria and the boss of the appointee to listen and ascertain the veracity of such claim. It is not out of place for the president to be embarrassed by reckless comments of a federal official.

The NPC is a sensitive organisation just like INEC and its leadership should atleast put up a front of fairness and be careful with words. It is based on the figures generated by the NPC that very sensitive issue such as national revenue is disbursed.

I'm sure if the INEC chairman makes some reckless comments today, comments that seems to suggest bias against APC, you'll be the first to call for his head.

The NPC chairman failed to rise up to very sensitive position he was occupying. Even as bad as Iwu INEC was, the Prof then always try to say the right things.

We all know the previous census figures were fraudulent but the new Chief of NPC was not appointed to lament or blast previous administrations. He was appointed to do a credible census.

Anyway, I hope he'll later be recalled. Suspension means there's still chance he maybe recalled. It is different from a sack. The only minister that was suspended sometime ago by GEJ was later recalled. But I hope many can learn from his experience[/quote. Am somtimes tired to comment on jaundised write ups such as yours! Population growth is not LIMITLESS. Population cannot grow more than the number, and health of women available. And 51 or even 52% of women in a population doesn't translate into one man two wives.

There is no parameter to support population growth in Northern Nigeria that even matches the South, not to talk of being higher.

I think we need to go for somebody that may not be known but with proven skills on results delivery, man management, poise and comportment. The guy in NIMC - Onyeama is an Ibo guy, who came from Zenith Bank, working pretty well and covertly achieving lots of things. We'll wake up one day and see that NIMC has credible data on national identity.....

Some people have proven they can walk/work the talk, talkless and achieve results. We must not be stereotypic and stick to some political calculations. We must put people that can manage the terrain.......

With due respect, Odimegwu keeps messing up big time. He does some irrational things and makes you wonder if he's normal. In his days in NBL, he ultimately got fired/retired, much more influenced by the Dutch larger stake investors who were irked that Odimegwu took NBL to the gutters, fraternizing with OBJ to the extent of being a face and mouth in the OBJs third-term Agenda. Another embarrasing incident was during one Musical contest show organized and sponsored by NBL, there were 3 finalists.....and before the judges could compile their results, Odimegwu grabbed the mic, went on stage to announce his own result, giving the first prize to a group the judges adjudged third place....it was so embarrasing that the media had their fill on him the next day.....he practically gave himself away as a tribalist too......

I watched Odimegwu's interview on NTA. I was brash, uncouth, too direct and lacking in wisdom. Odimegwu's answers to virtually all question were self-serving. Judging by the way he was talking, you can't blame kwankwaso for accusing him of being under influence of alcohol. Odimegwu reported that those against him in NPC are involved in a 400m fraud and he'll pursue it to the end. He told Cyril Stobber that if he doesn't mind he can mentioned the name of the culprit. Cyril had to remind him that he can't do that as the case is still under investigation and it might have legal implications.

I think this is a case of someone rising to the pinacle, yet has little or no leadership quality.......

Also interesting that no one is doubting his competence to conduct a proper representative census for the country; all we hear are cheap, puerile ad-hominem attacks on his person.
