STUPID CRIME: Man Convicted For Stealingchurch Toilet Door In Abuja by zizman: 12:25pm On Aug 29, 2013 |
A 20-year old Awwalu Ali has been sentenced to 90 days imprisonment for stealing a toilet door at the Calvary Faith Baptist Church, Life Camp, Abuja. The verdict has been read at Abuja Magistrates' Court on August 28, 2013, Wednesday. Mr. Abdullahi Illela, the Magistrate, who convicted Ali, said that it would serve as a deterrent to others. The Magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N2,500. Simon Emmanuel, the Prosecutor, previously told the court that one Adebiyi Laniyan of the Calvary Baptist Church reported the crime at the Life Camp Police Station on August 24. Emmanuel said that the convict broke into the church compound and removed the door to the toilet, but was arrested before he could escape with it. Awwalu Ali of Dape village, pleaded guilty to the charge and urged the court to pardon him. "I am a family man with a wife and two children; they will starve to death if I go to jail, please, have mercy on me, my Lord," he said. |
