Saved to serve

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:8-10

We are saved to serve and not to lazy around and wait for Heaven, God had prepared some works for us to do before we were ever created or the foundation of the world. Not that God saved us for the purpose of this works for we were initially created for this work, but as a result of sin in the Garden of Eden the work of God was cut short and we needed to be restored back to God and the work. The work I am talking about is the service in the kingdom, we are all giving different assignments on earth to do in order to fulfill purpose and further the cause of God. It is expected of each of us to be faithful in our different assignments to fulfill purpose and represent God as we ought to at this other side of eternity 1Corinthians 4:2.

We all have different callings and assignments we are to do to fulfill purpose, there is something particular God has called us to. Though many at times when we talk about callings, we most of the time set our minds on the ministerial calling or simply put the five fold ministry, and we also sees it as the important calling and spiritual at that, and separate from every other things we do. Some are called into the five fold ministry as we know it, while some are also called into less spiritual calling as we might want to put it, but it should be known that they are all equally spiritual and important to God. Some are called to be teachers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, pastors, evangelist e.t.c, the list of our callings are endless and the interesting thing is that no one is inferior to the other, and as we are all faithful in our individual calling we are fulfilling purpose and representing and furthering the cause of God on earth. A faithful preacher is no better off than a faithful teacher; each will be recompensed according to their faithfulness for the Lord is more concerned about our faithfulness than what we do or are called to do per se.
We are all ambassadors for Christ and ought to represent Him in every facet of our lives, this is the sum total of our purpose on earth and our reasonable service to the Lord. Irrespective of our different callings, we are all called to witness for Christ, this is our first and primary assignment as we fulfill purpose and represent and further the cause of God on earth. What other responsibility we are given should always be a platform for the furtherance of the gospel, and as we do this we will do well in the other and fully represent Christ.

We look closely at our services in every facet of our lives in order to live a balanced life not tilting to one side and neglecting the other; this is our responsibility on this other side of eternity to fulfill purpose. We are responsible to our immediate family which is our first responsibility, our neighbors, the church, and our personal ministry which is the main assignment given to us to do to fulfill purpose and represent and further the cause of God on earth.

Our Responsibility to Our Family

Our first responsibility as Christians is to our family, though many at times this is not the case because we believe it is to the church invariable to God. It is our responsibility that every member of our household is saved and lives according to the word of God. Though every member of the family has a role to play, we have the father as the head of the family which hold more responsibility in this regard, but if the father is not saved the saved one in the family becomes the spiritual head and the responsibility falls on him. Like it is often said that charity begins at home, our responsibility starts with our immediate family for as we are faithful in this we now become spiritually fit enough to venture out to a greater responsibility 1Timothy 3:1-5, 5:8. As we are faithful in our first responsibility God would trust us enough to entrust us with more responsibilities.

Our Responsibility to Our Neighbors

The second responsibility is to our neighbors, we hold the responsibility of seeing those around us saved for the bible says he that you are privileged to be of help to is your neighbor Luke 6:36-37. This is so serious to the point that the Lord is going to hold us responsible for our neighbors; for we have been giving the responsibility to see that others come to the knowledge of the saving grace because we are His watchmen Ezekiel 33:1-9. All we need do is to preach the word in truth and spirit that they might be opportune to hear the word and the Holy Spirit do the rest, for we can save no man. The bible says it is the spirit that convict and also that if Paul planted and Apollo waters it is the Lord that brings the increase 1Corinthians 3:6. We are meant to be ready to preach the word wherever we find ourselves, at whatever time, and to whomever we come across for necessity is laid on us all 2Timothy 4:2.

Our Responsibility to the Church

Funny and interesting enough our third responsibility is to the church (it is not the first or even the second), when one gives his life to Christ he is expected to join a bible believing church in order to grow to maturity and be numbered with the saints. When one joins the church he is not just to be a nominal member, he is expected to fully participate in whatever is been done in the church, according to the word of God for if it is not according to the scripture it is never acceptable by God. As he participates in the activities of the church, he is walking with God and working for Him and get to know the father the more, develop a relationship with Him and would get to discover his purpose. It is in the church that one get to discover purpose as a result of walking with God and working for Him; from there one will be eligible to go all out for Him. It was while Paul and Barnabas were serving in the church that the Holy Ghost separated them for the main work they were called to Acts 13:1-3.

Our Responsibility in the Ministry

Our responsibility in the ministry is our main responsibility but not the first, this is what we are put on earth to do to fulfill purpose, represent God as we ought and further His cause. Though the reason Jesus called the first disciples was to send them forth to preach, but the bible says in the Holy book that Jesus chose twelve that they might be with Him that He might send them forth to preach Mark 3:14. The concept was that though this was their main assignment, they are to remain with Him, learn from Him and be acquainted with His ways before venturing out to do that which they are called to. Paul and Barnabas also first remained in the church serving before venturing out to service Acts13:1-3. We are called differently and in different fields also, some are called into the five fold ministry while some their calling is not that spiritual as we might want to call it as earlier said, but as we are all faithful in our individual calling we fulfill purpose and live the life we are called to live and glory is given to our Heavenly Father.

Not that as we are faithful in one and neglect the other it will be good enough, it is not so, God expects us to be faithful in all for all encompasses our responsibilities on earth. And we are faithful in our individual responsibilities we are kept safe to Heaven and represent God as we ought on this side of eternity.

One thing and only one thing is needful, do not be deceived by the devil into getting too much attached to the things of the world. The devil is so subtle that he get you too busy even with good things and activities of religion, but not that which is needful. You major on the minor and minor on the major, and before you know it you have spent your life on the wrong things and it is too late.

But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou are careful and trouble about many things. But one thing is needful: And Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:40-42
