The famed largest party in Africa the Peoples Democratic Party had it's final convention as a united party yesterday at the Eagles Square where it met to elect new leadership for the the National Working Committee. The convention, turned out a big disappointment for those who expected internal democratic practices there as only those sycophants perceived to be loyal to the National Chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur were allowed to stand for election while other candidates were disqualified in a clear breach of the constitution of the party.


As a result, seven governors and the former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar were forced to abandon the charade and stage a walk out to hold a parallel congress to elect new officers. The seven governors of Rivers, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa,Niger. Sokoto and Adamawa with other teeming supporters and delegates went straight to the Shehu Musa Yar' adua centre and they elected the former acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje to lead the new PDP as National Chairman. Other s also elected were Dr. Sam Sam Jaja(Deputy National Chairman) and His Excellency, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinola as National Secretary.
